The hunt for Andrei Chikalito in the 70's. The Kremlin at the time refused to acknowledge that serial killers existed in Russia, as it was " a Western disease " and as such the mass of killings was ignored by the authorities. Almost single handidly solved by one detective who knew what was happening and wouldn't give up. Ended up setting up the equivalent of the Russian FBI.

Got an 11 day trip to Italy with a few long train journeys coming up soon, so will get thru a couple of those then hopefully :)

I'm currently reading the third volume of Winston Churchill's 'A history of the English speaking peoples'. Not the easiest of reads but dam good and very informative. This is the third time I've read them all and they're as fantastic a read of history as you can find anywhere.

Rick Atkinsons liberation trilogy is a good read for any WW2 buffs. They are American centric but not exclusively, and blend the experiences of statesmen, generals and the poor bloke in a foxhole well. Each book covers North Africa, Italy and D-Day and beyond, and you will learn new things with each volume.

Someone on here recommended this book ?

Good read, if a little short at 250 pages.

What I found shocking was the West Germans reluctance to not only prosecute former Nazis, but the fact that the Nazis in general were allowed to blend back into German society without punishment. Leading to Mossad taking things into their own hands and shame them into taking retrospective action .
