The GOT Book Club

not a bad read about cop undercover with the mongol biker group.

I read quite a lot over a few genres - nothing too heavy but there are a few authors worth a read -
Lee Child - all of his books are good. Can easily read them in a day because they grip you. Jack Reacher is a great character and for thiose who have only seen the film - the exact antithesis of the character displayed by Tom Cruise.
Vince Flynn - sadly deceased but there is someone helping to carry on his Mitch Rapp series, same sort of books as Lee Child.
Mario Puzo - most famous for The Godfather but The Borgias is well worth a read too as is Omerta.
David Baldacci - again done lots of books but I prefer the Will Robie and John Puller series'
John Grisham - earlier stuff is better but still very good legal thrillers whichever book you pick up.
Simon Scarrow - Roman history predominantly although has done a very good series on Wellington and Napoleon too.
Ken Follett - Best known for Pillars of the earth but again other books well worth a go too.
Scott Mariani - thriller/adventure folllowing character Ben Hope is good as is Steve Berry and his Cotton Malone series.
Any Bernard Cornwall and Conn Iggulden stuff is usually good too.

Most recently have got through;

Fear and Loathing... by Hunter S Thompson, decent but really just a tale of excess that was probably more relevant when it came out. 4/10.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, first time I've ever read an entire book in a day, oddly captivating and really enjoyed his writing style. 8/10

Walking the Nile by Levison Wood, great adventure and I'm a sucker for an adventure book, first 2/3rds brilliant but the last third felt a bit rushed. 7/10.

Currently only got a few chapters to go with A Thousand Splendid Suns, which has been a great read thus far.

Not read Burroughs for a long time leslad. Read the naked lunch as a student like everyone else - it's basically the rules. Also Cities of the Red Night. Thought they were mind-blowing at the time - seriously never seen writing like it, but I think that was largely being overwhelmed by all the craziness and unusual structure on the surface. I don't know if there are real books living underneath all of that.

Some man, like - talk about a life fully lived.

Yeah, I do think you're right there, the intensity and structure are dazzling, but there was little in terms of emotion/plot. I enjoyed the link - there was a few things on there I didn't know.
