The Great Summer Player Sale Bonanza!

Lets consider the amount of money Moshiri has given brands to be 100mil which is pure guesswork and then how much revenue on sales which is cira 100mil--again pure conjecture.

Look at Koulibaly who Napoli want 100mil for or van dijk at 75mil...Upamecano seems to be as close to a 'guaranteed' star as i can personally see with 10 years at the top ahead of him. He is rated at 60mil and another young star in De Ligt at 50mil.

If we sold Mori and Keane for north of 30mil then we would have the wages covered plus need 20-30mil for one of those 2 superstars...if we kept Jagielka.

Otherwise im not sure we would splash out such a hefty amount for a centre back if we sold Jags and keane for example. We would then go for someone like an Issa Diop for 30mil approx.

Likewise in the centre, moving on Schneiderlin, Klaassen, Rooney and McCarthy would bring in around 40mil. We need 2 box to box players, perhaps one of the young french players at 15-20mil and then, perhaps 40mil for a starting super player.

So, by selling all of those players and keeping Jagielka for example (whose worth is zero as a transfer fee) we would only need 40-50mil additional to upgrade for a superstar centre back + Star centre midfielder and another top development prospect.

Personally id be made up with Upamecano/De ligt + Torreira and a top french prospect for 40-50mil on top of those sales.

Its all a fine balancing act and not counting agent fees of course.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d happily ship them out if we were guaranteed those top players, but just don’t think brands would risk shipping out 3 of our CBs. And they will want one of Mori or Keane to stu in the squad due to their ages, as if you sell them, and struggle to bring someone in, we are left with a largely unproven Holgate, and an elderly Jagielka. Same with the midfield and shipping out 4 senior players. It’s a lot for one, shortened transfer window.

Also, can’t really see McCarthy leaving. While I’ve heard he is back running etc, I don’t think anyone will really risk taking a chance on him till January at least. I rate him as well, so would probably want him to stay. If an offer comes in though, he will go.

In short Brands has his work cut out separating the wheat from the chaff. There's a few who i think need another opportunity to prove themselves and the youngsters that have been depended on can have some breathing space but we need some quality incoming not quantity that's a given.

Gylfi doesn’t have the pace to play on the wings or the heart to play deeper. I think people are hoping he’ll be this super playmaker, which he won’t unfortunately

Dowell is being Dowell again, a compete lightweight who disappears. Major concern 2 years ago in the development team and the loan to Forest doesn’t seem to have worked. Can’t see how going abroad will toughen him as he seems to have some mentality issues which will, unfortunately see his potential disappear

Davies and Kenny are simply not good enough, both lack awareness and composure. While Kenny may look more attacking in a silva side his defensive issues will be highlighted even more.

The rest will be up to the manager, DoF and Fat Davy to discuss to see if they have what it takes.

Don't get me wrong, if it was announced Sigurdsson was being sold for 35mil approx Id be very happy as id expect a hugely talented high speed and quick passing superhero...but mostly in a funny way I think the fanbase as a whole would get extremely excited too.

Ive just gone with the supposed 'popular opinion'. It appears though most want him to stay...and if we made such wholesale changes we would need him and Walcott as experienced players to balance with the youth...and foreign lads.

The thing is, we don't know if Kenny and Davies are good enough...we wont until they've been developed further. Davies id send on loan.

Why do people keep including James McCarthy as a player to be sold ?
He is probably five months away from playing yet... or is there a suggestion that we give a discount because of his broken leg ?

A bit like a new year sale, or shop soiled goods after a fire ?

Simply because he's been linked in the press to Palace amongst others. Mentioning in the articles they would sign him even if recovering from injury for a discounted price (id let him go for a nominal fee myself).

it's a shame we can't sell all of our discards en masse, in a single transaction, to a newly promoted side. would they stay up? or could they get a championship club promoted?

they'd probably have enough about them to win the MLS for the Kansas City Whiz, or whatever...

There are so many of them...its really incredible to think that Hull started last season with 4 or 5 squad players....if they had money we could literally have over filled their squad in one hit.

I dont know why we are getting excited about selling players, buying high and selling low is not a good thing, hope this Brands lad has some skills.

Coating turd with sugar and selling for high prices is brand's remit. Martina to Barcelona for 45 mil is a done deal

See my responses in BOLD

Given that we are going to have a limited budget to buy new players, and the new players we buy will need to be quality starters able to help us bridge the gap to the top 6, here are my alterations.

Were rumoured to have 100mil to spend...before sales, what do you think is the figure?

Just Robles to go, perhaps Hewelt. Stek to stay. Unless we can get Robles to somehow sign a new contract.

Robles looks to be off as he wants to be 1st choice. Stekelenburg is useless (which I said before we signed him--thanks Ronald!) and Hewelt, really whats the point of him or the huge amount of keepers u21 aiming for a place in the squad or even u23 squad?

Personally I think we should sign an experienced backup player and also a potential superstar 3rd choice who we could send on loan window to window -- its done Pickford and Butland the world of good...lets try and build a keeper for once who may one day be better than Pickford.

Getting rid of all of them is not feasible Zat, as much as we would want it to happen. We don't have the budget and, as good a prospect as Feeney is, I think he definitely could do with a season on loan first. I'd get rid of Williams obviously, but keep Jags for another year as 4th cover until Feeney is ready to take his place. I'd sell either Keane or Funes Mori to raise funds towards the cost of his replacement.

Depends on how many centre backs you think we would need. I'd say 4 is enough as its not likely we would lose 3 centre backs at the same time between windows.

If we did as you suggest, we would have Jags + either Mori or Keane. So, one of them would fetch 15-20mil lets say. We then need to use a large amount of our budget to go for a superstar 50mil+ value centre back...so this seems to be a far greater budget issue for me. Unless we spend peanuts to get someone we need to develop a lot which is a risk.

Keep Jags, Feeney and Holgate and add in one superstar centre back and we'd only need to spend 15mil to have a 50mil player...makes more sense to me personally...Mori+Keane for a star...SOLD!!

I think we need two new players across the midfield. One a box to box strong runner and one a playmaker. Gana I would very much keep and Siggy too, along with the youngsters. I'd sell Besic, Schneids and McCarthy (subject to fitness). Undecided on Klaassen as he may fit better into our new style of football. But if we could recoup a lot of what we paid I'd probably be inclined to sell.

Precisely! Just as I mentioned above on centre backs -- recoup as much as we can and go for 2 new centre midfielders.

I wouldn't go for a specific 'playmaker' type here though. If we have Gana/Baningime for one position then we would need a box-to-box player alongside as it would aid in the pressing and keep the base solid. Some players such as Torreira and the Atlanta player who @Nymzee said we were linked to the other day (name has escaped me suddenly) can pass the ball extremely well, get stuck in and also press the ball.

I'd like to see 1 of that level signed and another u21 high potential player to develop --but good enough to be a starter.

Selling those 4 would bring in ( Besic(10) McCarthy(5) Schneiderlin(20) Klaassen(15) ) around 50mil of which 30mil-40mil would land the starter and perhaps another 15/20mil for the u21 player...meaning a net spend of max 10mil.

I'd get shut of Bolasie and Mirallas. Not sure Onyekuru will get a work permit and, if not, I'd bring in another player for out wide. Dowell would come into the squad.

If we remove Onyekuru, Mirallas and Bolasie -- we have Lookman/Walcott/Vlasic/Dowell which is all we need really.

However I believe Vlasic should be rotated with Sigurdsson (as well as lookman playing ACM sometimes too) and so we would need 1 more wide player in this case. However;

If we are able to sign 2 of Richarlison, Lozano and Kluivert I would take the chance immediately. Opportunities to sign these star quality u21 players rarely come up and this would impact greatly my decision on Dowell. If we were able to sign say Lozano and Kluivert for 60mil combined whilst bringing in 10-15mil for the sales I think it would be fantastic business. So, Dowell would stay otherwise or id send him on loan to someone who would utilise him the right way and whose manager wasn't likely to get sacked half way through a season and misuse him (karanka!)

I don't think we need 4 strikers if we are playing with pacey wide players. If we brought another striker in I'd get rid of Niasse, but I don't want to do this as I think he's proven himself to be very effective from the bench. I'd stick with what we have for next season then see what we need the following season depending on DCLs development and Tosun too of course. I think both will flourish in a new attacking style of play with the wide players and midfielders supporting them.

Id also have no problem keeping those 3 only...IF we were able to use the funds to sign really super players with long term potential to be top class at LB / CB / CM / WF.

So my scenario would involve jettisoning fewer players and bringing in 5. I even know which 5 I want to bring in now.

Centre Back Dayet Upamecano (19 France) R B Leipzig
Left Back Alex Grimaldo (22 Spain) Benfica
Centre Mid Tanguy Ndombele (21 France) Lyon
Attack Mid Hakim Ziyech (25 Morocco) Ajax
Wide Justin Kluivert (19 Holland) Ajax

3 of these are young but have performed to a high standard at a decent level so I don't believe they are a high risk, but neither will they cost as much we would have to pay for a Koulibaly or Carvalho

Cant fault the first 3 but I wouldn't go for Ziyech myself...would prefer another player to compete with Ndombele.

Would also seek to add Lozano as well as Kluivert so we have Walcott, Lookman and those two all with pace to last out a season with rest for each.

I'd be very excited if we signed those two wide players + Ndombele and would be elated if we signed Upamecano...Grimaldo or similar would be a good left back signing.

The squad would be

Keepers, Pickford, Stek
(I think we need 1 to develop)
FBs Coleman, Kenny, Grimaldo, Baines, Robinson
(No need for Baines if Robinson can step up)
CBs Holgate, Funes Mori, Upamecano, Jags, (I could live with that but doubt we could pay for Upamecano's fee if we kept Mori)
CMs Gana, Beni, Siggy, Ndombele, Davies (This seems decent If Sigurdsson can work In CM with the style of play)
AMs Lookman, Ziyech, Kluivert, Vlasic, Dowell, Walcott (Swap Ziyech for Lozano)
Strikers Tosun, DCL, Niasse

That's a very manageable squad of 27, full of youth, pace and attacking intent that would fit Silva's pressing style perfectly.

Some tweaks imo and would be awesome!

Get as many of these serial losers out as possible. Some of them have stopped playing for 3-4 managers now. They turn up if relegation is threatened and then go back to not doing anything. A complete spineless bunch, will be good to see the back of most of them.

I can't believe I actually read all of this Champ Manager level speculation.
Sort of lost all credence when you suggested that Pennington will go less than a week after signing a new contract extension, then you went and put a formation schematic in there. *heavy sigh*

Some players will leave, some players will stay. People will squabble over their respective merits. Not sure it warranted ANOTHER thread.

3/10 Zat. Must try harder.

I don't see why McCarthy and Schneiderlin should be sold.
Both have shown that they can be excellent players. Both, for me, should be given a chance under Silva.
McCarthy was showing signs of improvement before breaking his leg with a last ditch goal saving tackle. Definitely deserves a chance to see if he can emulate his form from his first season with us.
Schneiderlin was crap for most of last season but he's always played really deep for us. When he was at Southampton, he was a really good box to box midfielder. Give him a go and see if Silva can knock a tune out of him.
We've had defensive issues for four seasons now and our only solution has been to get our creative midfielders to play deep. This has ruined their confidence and their game. It's time we sorted out our defence and let our midfielders push on.

Klaassen is staying and deserves to stay.
