It's not because one is a picture of the weather and the other is a temperature map.

good point, nice one for clarifying.

both images from the tweet have similar temperatures, but the media these days tend to push the red-scorching (temperature) map instead of the weather map to represent the weather, as red is more effective at seeding worry among the populace in this era of hyper-aware Global-Warming concerns.

google images of UK WEATHER MAP to see what the front pages are doing...they're showing the red scorchio! map, rather than the less alarming-looking weather map.

that's the point i guess he's making, but yours is sound too.

I suppose they also use the red/amber/yellow to indicate the differing alert levels which is why the papers will give out the maps.

It's a strange thing that nobody ever says "maybe it's not fear mongering these days, maybe in the past the news/information we consumed was euthemised, but access to information is much greater now so harder to control the output"

Cant even report the weather these days without snowflakes (pun intended) complaining that it’s all part of media agenda and how it all used to be better in the old days.

also fine point...Portugal had 46° earlier today.

anything that makes folk more aware of being protected against severe heat is a good thing, just that i guess the Greta-era of climate-activism is making a lot of folk cynical...we collectively should improve how we communicate these things.

I suppose it's easy to disregard the message if your entire basis for countering the argument is to ignore the argument and focus on the motivations/delivery of the message.

"She's just an angry girl, so I can completely ignore what she says"

Cynicism/denial regarding climate activism seems to either follow the existing bias of the cynic or anger those who don't want to change their lifestyle that's causing damage..

I agree we need better communication about these issues, but there will always be those undermining the effort.
