The whole timeline of this thing is a joke anyway.

1881 - Black Watch regiment founded.
1881/82 - Everton wear a kit that looked similar so were nicknamed The Black Watch.
1970 - Black Watch regiment in Ireland.
2021 - Irish people (and Dave) raging at a football kit with a history almost a hundred years older than The Troubles.

I also read somewhere that it was thought the nickname may have came from the fact that the team regularly trained late into the night.

I don't know if this is true, but saw it earlier. It sounds plausible to me anyway

Did some reading on this. The Black Watch regiment actually has its roots in pre-Union Scotland in the 17th century.

It’s never been English, and it wasn’t even British in its founding.

The most embarrassing thing about that is the terrible cropping job they've done when sticking their logo on a black background, state of it.
