The Krays and other criminals

One of my best mates cousins, had a heavy weight South Liverpool security firm in the 80`s / 90`s and were involved in all the door and security wars that went on at that time.

Whoever controlled the doors controlled the drugs inside and the money was then " washed " through the thug security company they ran.

They lived their whole lives at the time, in houses covered in CCTV cameras, couldn`t leave their home area without a load of muscle tagging along with them and when the door wars were at their peak, never left the house without bullet proof vests on.

Probably the only thing that kept them alive, was a big police operation, that put them inside for a good while, for being concerned in the supply of class "A"s.

This included confiscation orders for their houses and cars, which meant that they`re families ended living back where they`d all come from.

They`ve all gone straight now - property, hotels etc, using the money that the police never got their hands on.

They all looked after their mums at the time though.

Heavy time that, especially the late 90's when it came on top for most big time. It came to a head a few years later, 3 murders over doors and a few snarls. Back when Scouse gangsters who put it out there were actually hard to be fair (not on about the guns, I mean some seriously hard men). Nowadays the hard ones keep a lid on it and the little farts do all the leg work.

Saying that, you wouldn't get me down Slater st, Wood st, Concert Square having a bevvy. Little rats digging students thinking they're mad. I prefer a modest pint and a square go with a 55 year old Scouse barmaid these days. Puts you in your place and hair on your chest.

It went from tablet’s to coke in a very short time and that‘s when things got really bad.

We used to swerve Wood St and Mathew St at the weekends, as the chance of getting a hammering for no reason was so great - plus two of my mates at the time were Asian, so that always made us a target too.

He came in to our works about 4/5 years ago. One minute he was talking about his life in the care system and what he had to go through. The next he was basically shadow boxing, screaming, heavy breathing and talking nonsense, then went back to talking about how a life of crime is no good. After the learners left, he basically tried to extort our boss for more money. Luckily enough we had an ex beat Bobby who worked the Birmingham riots on the premises incase anything happened. Was such a bizarre encounter
To @COYBL25 too, he's always been a tosser and, like the Krays, used his public image and bravado to build a reputation that didn't truly match up.

Don't get me wrong, he was feared by many, however the likes of Franna Lamb from the Dingle and many others weren't afraid of amoebas like him.

Back in about 2010, he got chased out of the Blackburne Arms with a few of his young bucks, which showed how much the 'mighty' had fallen.

Premier Security were the big players in the door wars, but as pointed out it was brought down through a lot of pressure. Clarke and co. got big time!

To be perfectly honest, I’d only heard of him because of the Ross Kemp documentary years ago. Living in Widnes, we don’t have Gangsters nor gangster activity. Apart from the New York Mafia, not really clued up on it all.

To be fair to him, he’s a very intense man and could tell he could snap and cause damage to someone. Some found him very intimidating like. I was kinda hoping he would snap on a few of the learners I taught at the time(joking obviously) I can’t really remember much of the talk he gave but could tell he lived a dangerous, paranoid and high life in one go. He was polite to me, and the rest of the staff and can only take him at face value.

He’s not the most dangerous I’ve been around, one fella from down south(can’t remember his name) was an absolute tank with knife wounds and bullet wounds to show for it. His lifestyle was ridiculous. Think he done like 30 odd years in the high security prisons over here.

I’ve never understood the 10 or so bald overweight men I’ve seen during my lifetime with identical Kray Twins tattoos on their calves. Bizarre.

Secrets of the krays. 'Fall' s01E03

Itv tonight, 11:40pm-12:30am if you are really krayving some tv time about the loathsome pair.

Its because the Krays loved the image and played up big time to the media and rubbed shoulders with celebs of the day.
They have just been normalised as part of that world as opposed to the violent bang average criminals that they were.
The opposite of this in fact … celebs at the time wanted to be seen with the krays oddly enough.
