The Media who cover Everton

We are badly served by those in the media who cover this club. The Echo coverage is appalling, of course. But we also have a terrible representation of the club by all the writers on the club from the Mail, Mirror, Telegraph, Guardian etc etc. About the only one's they dont go after are the players. The fans, the board, the owners, the managers...all there to be hammered by that lot.

They have the knife out for Everton and they enjoy the thrill of attacking us. They wont be too patient with this incoming manager either. I bet they cant wait for him to lose a few games.

Ok, we have been a basket case in the Moshiri era, but I doubt there's another club in the PL who gets this treatment. I have no idea how they get away with it.

I'm not sure what's to be done, but I just thought I'd throw the issue out there.
Unfortunately, the media is infested with kopites and ex rs players. They'll always have a sly dig at Everton. Even more unfortunately, we are making it easy for them with how we are run.

This annoyed me this morning on BBC website.

Everton: Frank Lampard agrees to become manager

Not “Everton appoint Lampard“ or “Lampard to manage Everton”.

But Lampard “agrees” to manage Everton.

As if he is holding his nose and signing on for us.

The media really do belittle us at every opportunity.
I think there's a number of reasons behind the media's treatment of Everton. I don't believe the club has done itself many favours over the past 3 decades and has left itself open to criticism, and the current situation is quite possibly the lowest ebb. Also our neighbours are one of the media darlings and as a result there;s a tendency to undervalue anything we do. We aren't alone in that. Manchester City have the same problem with United, and they're arguably the best club side in the world at the moment.

But I think the biggest issue the media have is with the fans. They just don't get us and I can understand that to an extent. I think there's an element of football snobbery going on with us. I'm not pointing the finger here as I'm just as guilty as anybody else. We consider ourselves as football royalty. We are one of the oldest clubs in the world, one of the founder members of the football league, have a rich history and tradition as a successful club. We've played more games, won more points and scored more games in the top flight than any other club. Evertonians are incredibly proud of that history. The songs we sing even highlight it. Not only that but, as fans, we think of ourselves as superior to other groups of fans. We are a different breed, especially when compared to the red half of Merseyside. We believe we hold the moral high ground, are incredibly proud of what the club do in the community, The Peoples Club, once Everton have touched you and all that. We all believe that we deserve to be part of the football elite, that we should have a place at the top table. Coming second is never good enough for us. We have to win or be the best or we are not happy. The start of last season showed who we are to a T. A couple of games top of the league and we react by having the top 4 songs in the charts. I guarantee no other set of fans in the world would have reacted in that way.

That there, in a nutshell, is the average Evertonian. The outside world, and the media in particular, just don't get it. They see a club that has won just one trophy in the last 35 years and I think they resent the sense of superiority we Evertonians have..

you only get great press if you are winning trophies or playing attractive football - we have done neither, so what do you expect ?

I wouldn't let what the media say about Everton, the club, get to you, water off a ducks back.

People who I have never met, and never will, will say stuff, some I will read, some I won't but most (if not all) I won't care about. That incudes positive articles, it is just their opinion, nothing to get worked up about.
Unfortunately for me, they do.
Thing being its if you're a reporter or journalist its so easy to align yourself with them and curry favour from their audience.
In our case, by default in licking up everything Anfield you are anti Everton it's what they do, and of course we do with them.
In my case its made worse when a great number of them nowadays weren't around mid eighties and know how good we were, which would go some way to temper their attitude towards us.

Moshiri must have been crying on this berk’s shoulder.

To be fair, to an outsider that is exactly how we appear.

We would say the exact same thing if we saw a club in our mess with protests all ove the show. It's just we know the ins and outs of why the fans are kicking off.

That's a great post and I do feel superior to a Kopite.
Brought down to earth some years ago when I was living in Devon, somebody I met who was a Red's armchair/tv fan thought Everton was " one of those mill towns near Manchester".

I live in Cornwall now but stand out as a scouser. I'm rarely asked whether I'm a red or a blue. Most people just assume I'm a red. It's extremely annoying at times.

To be fair to @davek this morning's headlines back up his claim somewhat.

I just typed in Frank Lampard into google news; everything was either negative or nonsense.

"Lampard blocks DCL's move to Arsenal" and such like.

The RS Echo even had "Lampard sends message to Gerrard after Everton move" there was literally not one mention of any message to Gerrard or anyone in the whole article. Pretty pathetic.
