The very title of the article is negative, and tbh this could have been written 12 months ago, but they save it up for the day before he’s unveiled as our manager.

I suspect this was designed to be a follow-up headline to this one:
"Frank Lampard offered Everton managerial job to replace Rafael Benitez"
i.e. first he is offered, then he accepts.
However, that only punts the annoyance back to that earlier headline. You could just as easily word that as "Everton offer Frank Lampard managerial job to replace Rafael Benitez."
We don't seem to help ourselves at all though do we.
