The Midfield.

It is all very reminiscent of Moyes persisting with Arteta out wide when everyone could see he'd transform us in the middle. Only when he was forced to vs Spurs away (injuries/suspensions)... and lo! The penny dropped.

Will it with Dyche though? Albeit Garner is not as good as Arteta, but out of the current crop he's the one most likely to change our play.
 

A lot can be argued that we are a counter-attacking team, and enjoy giving the opposition the possession either in 2 or 3-person midfield. But in the rare cases that we need to keep possession, do we have a metronome in our current midfield? Or is it missing in our squad entirely?

Edit: Full disclosure, I wanted Warrington to be that midfielder and Garner now but both seem less than par with our requirements.

Just watch what Onana does for Belgium.

If we used 3 midfielders with Onana behind 2 CMs as the anchor it would work, im positive.

But having Doucoure playing an advanced role and tracking back wouldnt make sense if we setup that way.

But Belgium have tremendous midfielders. Like you said, our current combination is not compatible. Maybe we need proverbial 5 yard passer? Also why Warrington showed some promise.

Logically you would play Onana central and deep with a left centre mid and a right centre mid ahead of him.

Garner is good for the right centre mid position.

But then were down to Gomes and Gana :(

So we would need to sell Doucoure or simply not extend his deal past the summer...and then sign a left sided centre mid and 2 players to rotate.

So 3 centre mids would need to be signed.
 

I don't think Onana is the midfield general at club level yet, same with garner, we badly need a Michael Carrick type player to even things out. Aren't there any for rotational places, from the academy (like onyango). If we had someone Jorginho type or that Bonaventura type, it would be nice.

Definitely need a new 8 or 10 for the January window.
