We used to be a massive club. We used to dine in the finest of banqueting halls. Over the past almost 40 years our status has slowly and surely been eroded.

With the return of Moyes our slow but gradual descent to the status of a desperate tramp, desperately grabbing any few crumbs they can muster from the table they used to wine and dine on will be complete.

As an old fart, I've physically seen us play in nine finals at Wembley. I've also seen us win various cups and the league four times. I've also seen Goodison with 70,000+ plus inside it. I know what a huge club we can be.

However, the Premier League years (decades now!) have been desperately poor. The only success we've ever had during the PL years was under Moyes: a top 4 finish, regularly qualifying for Europe, that run to get to the 2009 FA Cup final, wins away at places like Nuremberg etc.

And he did all that on a shoestring budget. He saved us once before and he will save us again.

We had some wonderful nights at Goodison under Moyes, from our first defeat over Man Utd for over a decade in 2005 to the 3-0 win over the RS in 2006. Goodison will be bouncing again on Wednesday night!

The 'Moyes mind virus' is a debilitating affliction that insidiously creeps into the psyche, gradually lowering expectations and eroding the drive towards excellence. It manifests as an overwhelming sense of complacency, where ambition is quietly smothered under the weight of mediocrity. Those affected by this mental malaise find themselves inexplicably content with the status quo, expressing gratitude for average outcomes and diminishing their aspirations for greatness. In its grip, individuals often lose sight of their goals and dreams, settling instead for the comfort of the ordinary. This virus, both insidious and pervasive, poses a significant threat to the pursuit of growth and success for Everton FC
Expectations, don't get much lower than where they have just been. Trying to draw, your way to safety. Hoping for 0-0. Playing the worst football I have seen since Walter Smith era. Although I believe it's just been worse.

At Goodison we played some good football. Moyes got us into Europe quite often. A cup final and semi final. Recently won a trophy at Westham. Bite your hand off for any of that now.

We don't have the players for the big reset. If it was the summer, I'm sure they'd of made a different choice.

I can understand why people don't want him back, but I would point to two things. Our expectations in 2008-13 were to break into the top four and at the end of hs reign we were fed up that we couldn't. Now our expectations would be fulfilled if we comfortably get 10 wins in a season.

The second is we were concerned that Moyes will never win anything in his life. He has broken that glass celling, albeit fortuitously. He also took relegation threatened wham and hung onto the coattails of the leading clubs. He is probably a better manager now than he was back then.

What we need is to change the narrative, cancel the noise, stop being a laughing stock and get to a point where a decent manager wants to join us because they can see a way forward to win things, instead of 'if you are willing to pay me that much I'll come'. A few seasons of Davey now wouldn't be like how we felt in year 6 etc. of when he was here first. As long as we are showing progress it should be fine, then we get another manager to take it on, like Martinez did in his first year here. Hopefully they won't be a massive bluffer like Bobby Brown Shoes this time though.
