For me Rivers is miles better, and Eli should never get in. Just like Plunkett never should. Stabler never should have either.
Maybe he's better, but I still don't rate Rivers. He just doesn't pass the eye test for me. I love stats, at least as much as half of the next guys, and even though Rivers has some good stats, to me they're mostly *meh*.
Career 95 rating in 228 games with 397 TDs, 198 INTs, and 59271 Yds. That's ok, and it's not unfavorable compared to Brees* or Brady**
Brees 98 rating in 275 games with 547 TDs, 237 INTs, and 77416 Yds.
Brady 97 rating in 285 games with 541 TDs, 179 INTs, and 74571 Yds.
Ok, so Brees and Brady are much better at the passing stats. But the other stats matter too:
Rivers 228 games, 123 wins, 27 4th-quarter comebacks, 32 game-winning drives.
Brees 275 games, 163 wins, 35 4th-quarter comebacks, 50 game-winning drives.
Brady 285 games, 219 wins, 35 4th-quarter comebacks, 45 game-winning drives.
Maybe it's unfair to compare Rivers to these two, his stats are just meh. Also, how on earth Brady had 35 4QC with so many wins is amazing. And he had some terrible teammates many years.
*rampant homerism
**maybe an unfair comparison
