The Oldies Thread

The sportsman, and the penny farthing got warned by the bar women in the penny farthing as I was only 17 about my age six of us then all got refused to be served because of my then baby face - the others moaned at me as we walked out as we got to the corner a butchers police van raided the penny farthing pub - they then thanked me even the the 16 year old mateslol

The sportsman was ok with that sportscar screwed to the ceiling.......

Yes it was the smartest of the theme pubs in the then new precient in those heady days!
Some of the clubs only served halfs at 50 p average pint was 15p!
Remember going to the the newly built Caven club in Mathew st opposite the original in the 1970s ale like water being served in plastic cups live bands on "The Lettermen " a local band trio were brilliant one afternoon with Showaddy (crap ) topping the bill on a Sat afternoon.
I think the Lettermen two of them worked in Rushworths selling guitars musical instruments etc were brilliant!
The plastic cups were chucked on the floor, when it was my round nearly broke my neck sliding on them to get to the bar what a Crap hole it was, but it had some decent bands on live on a Sat pm !

I flew the oldies flag loud & proud on wed & fri at the Etihad this week, proper showed some of the youngies the score, front of stage bouncin' like I was 17 again, they did 1 of those big circles daring someone to go in.... in I went doin' my best Ian Brown walk & bang they all rushed in, I just bounced & got em all jumping 'til it was just me in there again.

Daughter was mortified but then all the other oldies were grabbing me , hugging me & spinning me around, saying to her that's how you do it yer arl fellas still got it.
Boy I suffered today though.
