The Oldies Thread



Remember the orange juice and milk carton dispenser on City Rd a couple of minutes from the ground,first one I'd ever seen.
There was a branch Echo office near ours by The Oak Tree, Huyton in the 60s. People arranged all the small ads and Births, Marriage & Death notices there. There was a recess outside that had a Milk Carton vending machine and also an Echo Vending Machine right next to it. No shops open all hours then....though the newsagents round the corner had a ciggy machine in the entrance porch when the shop was shut. Think it was Senior Service or Woodies. They were never smashed up either.
 
In late 1960's Walton, we were a 10 minute walk away from a plethora of local small shops and amenities.

A butchers, greengrocers, newsagent ( they kept my Sexton Blake's on order), Victoria fleapit cinema, chandlers, and Wilson's clothes store ( a lovely Jewish couple running it)

Sadly all gone, to be replaced by a horrible Asda.
