The Oldies Thread

I saw Alan Ball in work literally days before he died.. heard all my life about him, my dads total hero.. Im not old enough to have seen him play.. ' Nows your chance' I thought.. I approached Alan.. and I said the first thing that came into my head...

He was, without doubt, the finest player we ever had. He was an absolute joy to watch and he had the evil eye over the RS.....

" Alan Ball, part of the Everton Holy Trinity... My dad cried when you joined Arsenal ! "

He obviously recoginised my 'wool' accent.. and he nodded and winked...

Kevin Ratcliffe was my hero as a kid........ my family name is Radcliffe so may have been pre ordained but I loved him and still do to this day.

I remember Ratters when he got huge amounts of stick from the fans ... and then he changed position from left back to centre half and the rest is history.

Speaking of which, when did centre-halves become centre-backs ffs ?

We all cried when he joined Arsenal. We all remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news.......

Good question, but fck knows if I can remember, maybe some of the kids know......

Going to Woolies to buy the latest ELO album on vinyl. Remember getting Out of The Blue . Got it home and found it was on BLUE vinyl. Whooooooo !!! Pretty cool. Playing it on the new music centre with the clear plastic lid. Sounded better than the CD version I now have. Do records sound better than CD's ? Or is it just my nostalgic tendencies kicking in

The guy was a genius. I probably support Everton because of the Holy Trinity ... but it was so long ago I can't be sure.
