We used to love a note out for the milkman asking for an extra pint. You'd probably have to tweet him four days in advance now.

Shock, horror, he left the milk on the doorstep, unrefrigerated for hours and no-one died of food poisoning. Actually, thinking about it, if we needed extra milk at short notice we'd walk over to the farm and get a fresh pinta ( green top of course ) which was sometimes warm if it was soon after milking time.

Our milkman would do his round about 2am if he was going on holiday that day . We even got Xmas meat hampers off Express Dairies . You could trust your milkman, too . Who , now, can you tell you won't be home for the next week as you went off to Pwllheli
