The Oldies Thread

Boyhood goodies a six of chips{ 2 & 1 /2p} a lucky bag 3d 1.2 p - The chips never went up only when £SP went to decimalisation came in everything seemed to double in price in the late 1960's or early 70s?!

I actually miss queuing up for tickets for events. Not just football, but gigs and even cinema. I remember going down to the old Stadium in around 76 to queue for Led Zeppelin tickets. Got the first bus into town on the day they went on sale and wasn't even in the first hundred in the line when we got there. Same with cinema, no multiplexes back then so when a film like The Exorcist came out you'd be queuing for at least an hour beforehand. Although it was a pain to be waiting around I think the effort you went to made the events more memorable in a way.

Nice one that. Remember queuing in Smiths of all places for a Rolling Stones ticket when they played at Ashton Gate in about 1847

Doug McLure had the best sounding character in the Virginian, Trampass. Never heard it before or since.
Ah Trampass what the hell sort of name was that
But the Virginian wore a black hat and was a good guy
Counterintuitive for a ten year old Irish kid !

I went to see the exorcist at the royal court there were people patrolling outside with quotes out of the bible and you had to go in and have a talk from the st johns ambulance brigade before you got in, bit nerve wrecking as I was to young to see it and kept thinking I would get knocked back after waiting so long , people actually left after a few minutes of it starting after the build up to get in.

The hysteria surrounding that film was unbelievable. It was very scary, though.
