The Pastie Rater

I was in Blackpool today and had a "Meat and Potato" pastie from a shop that looked a lot like Sayers but was called something else.

Anyway, as I sat with the kids in Jungle Jims... I ate my pastie and it was akin to eating watery slop in a pocket of grease. Bloody terrible. I never even finished it and I was hungry like the wolf!

I love pies and pasties in general. Unfortunatly Ive been on a diet since August and can no longer eat them. I seem to remember pasties from the cornsh pastie company were particulary ace. But I also remember Farlies Rusks being great too, so who knows. Oh and ive lost just over 2 stone if your interested. Another 2 and im going to look well fit I can tell you:lol:

Thats a usual Pastie experience. A pastie is abit like the mutant twin Kuoatos in Total Recall. Its the scabby mate who's house smells like wee and always wants to borrow stuff. I mean, if you say 'Im feeling Pie', its sounds like your healthy and well, full from loving life. 'Im feeling Pastie' sounds like you need a good dose of vitamin C and a trip down the Docs to get some shots.

I tried to love the pastie once. That was until my eye caught the pie, in all its sensous forms and easy to eat glory. Its fillings and pastry variety, its humbleness and its stomach filling capacity.

Im with Pie.

Chicken Tikka Pastie/Slice

In the main, an excellent piece of craftmanship. Brilliant taste, pastry is sturdy so that it does not become disfigured once bitten into whilst remaining flakey. The actual filling offers generous serving of chicken pieces in a sublime tikka flavoured sauce.

One major flaw in the design, whilst focus on shape retention has obviously been the primary aim, they have neglected to incorporate a sufficient ventilation system. Thus causing you to go home, put your pasty on the plate, and stare at it for half an hour before it becomes an edible temperature.

Effort: A
Implementation: B
Overall: A-

Verdict: A must for any pastie fan.

Next trip to England, and I'm going to have to try some of these.

I feel so left out over here.

Not missing much there Big Bill. I know there are some hardcore Pastifiles on here who will tell you different but Ill give it to you straight.

Pasties = All the bakery left over scrapings in Mystery pastry.
