Can you explain the joke?

I'm guessing a guy from Texas is going to know very little about black history with Texas being a traditionally very racist state. He went for the lowest value question which is presumably the easiest. Not sure how that's funny though.
Anyone got an actual funny?
It's a sad joke.
The TV show is "Jeopardy" which is a general knowledge quiz show, with questions ranked in varying levels of difficulty for many different subjects. The joke here is that the last category available (all the others have been cleared out by the contestants) is African American History, all the contestants are (apparently) white and none of the questions have been attempted or answered. While contestants are normally drawn from varying groups within the US, these three are college kids representing their indicated schools.
It's a commentary on the poor knowledge many white citizens have of the history of African Americans in the US. Joke is more poignant at the moment as February is officially "African American History Month" in the US.
So it was 'funny' as in odd rather than funny ha-ha.
More funny as in sad.
And another kind of sad, courtesy of People of Walmart - I think that's gonna hurt when he pulls it out.
