Nothing odd about a picture of an attractive young woman cutting a slice of Birthday cake, but this photo was taken in Iran pre-1979 when Iranian women could serve in parliament, had the right to vote, sat on local councils, and could dress however they wished. Sadly, things are very different for them now.

​

Back in the 1930s, you could pay a person (called a 'Knocker Upper') sixpence a day to wake you up by tapping your window with a long stick or (like in the pic below) by using a pea shooter. Factories and Mills in England would often employ a 'Knocker Upper' to wake up their employees.
