I get why he's a comfort blanket for a lot, it's why I said yesterday I don't think he'd be coming if he wasn't our manager all them years ago.

Generally when reviewing/discussing managerial options, you look at their prior record.

That's his last club then, and if there's a lot of discussion about him being "proverbial safe pair of hands", then you can look at when he joined his last club, half way through the season and look at whether or not he improved them. He didn't, 19 points in 20 games etc.

I'd expect any manager who comes in to keep us up - it had gone stale under Dyche, interim manager with half a squad not invested in next season. A new manager bounce, aided by some desperately needed transfer spend will see us safe. We're not even bottom 3 now, as bad as it's been.

So the question for me isn't is he better than Sean Dyche, I wanted Dyche gone as soon as we got new owners and the capability to spend.

The question I ask is, is he the right man to rebuild the team? Because I don't have confidence we'll lash him in the summer.

Will he keep us up - likely, I think any semi competent manager would.

If he does will he simply say so long and leave, for me hugely unlikely - Moyes has wanted back at the club for years - if he gets back sure as hell he will do everything to cling onto it once he is.

Will he be the right men to rebuild the team, I doubt it seriously - since Moyes was here first time recruitment has moved onto a different level with vast scouting networks now being commonplace as well as data analyst companies specialising in this field. The days of a manager drawing up a few lists on a board and going and getting them has long had its day.

Throw in you should with rare exceptions 'never go back' - there's a damned good reason it's a well known expression, because it's nearly always true that second time round is never ever as good and often a disaster (be that football managers, players or life).

I said also on the Mourinho thread, that perception does matter hugely, and the way this will be perceived will cement the club as still stuck in the blue Bill era in spirit if not name

Lastly can't get past after a sleep and last night's beer the simple fact he pissed all over us the last year he was here and his true feelings about the club really came out then and when he left.

Moyes never really got the club, he was just very good at presenting a face to the fans and media like he did, but a lot of the small time mentality instilled in us these days traces right back to Moyes tenure here.

I admire everyone who has voted no and wish I could too, but still have not seen a credible alternative for our predicament who is currently unemployed.
Sad state we are in again.

No idea why you're sparing Boyland: he stayed silent when all the accusations were flying round about headlocks. What did he do to avoid being seen in the same light as O'Keeffe?

These hacks are bought and paid for. Their loyalty is to themselves, then Everton owners, then a long long way back Everton fans and Everton's interests as a club.
Yes that’s probably fair. I just think that Boylandbhas not shown a consistently pro BK agenda over a long period of time like Greg has

Only because he was less time under Kenwright when he ruled the roost on his own.

People are wasting their time trusting any journalist that came through the Echo. They are Everton FC / Liverpool FC whores.

Not the guys fault to be fair. It's why I ignore/refuse any "can you share your view on...." because they make it 'The Everton Perspective'

It's another reason I intensely dislike a certain former mod in here who now speaks as if he's the voice of if all evertonians in different outlets - also why I can't stand the toffee TV Muppets

I'd hope they've at least sought out the likes of Terzic, Mancini.

Plenty have told me over the months that the money we pay, we could tempt them - even Allegri!

There's also the likes of Rudy Garcia and Niko Kovac. Sarri, too.

There's 6 out of contract. [Edit] Fonseca is number 7.

No idea on PSR realities or cost to sack Dyche and compensation to bring in another - but I'd hope they'd also consider if they could nab Thomas Frank.

Prior to TFG, I accepted we were in Dyche/Moyes territory. Had hoped we'd moved on since.

FY 21/22 drops from our rolling PSR calcs this summer. I think that, plus whatever TFG do alongside with the new stadium etc. should mean we have breathing space to be more active this summer.
Now this is probably the most logical reason for his appointment and I can forgive them for this.

Martinez took a Moyes team to 5th place. Moyes did that (and better) about 5 times.

Yes the football was nicer to watch under Martinez, but let's not re-write history.
How many times did Moyes finish above 5th place exactly?
I can only remember once .
And I said Martinez had us vying ( challenging ) for 4th place not finishing in it .
The football was not just ‘nicer’ it was vastly superior and closer to the football that the former ‘School of Science’ should be playing than anything Dour Davey was capable of producing.

I said this the other day

My advice is to be careful what you wish for.
There's no way you can guarantee we get a manager in who can cope as well as Dyche has here for 2 years operating under the strain he's endured.
If these owners are wobbling on Dyche they better have around £50M/£60M to spend on players this window...and they better have a Plan B if that change goes disastrously wrong...which it stands a good chance of doing.

Dyche = safety
A.N.Other manager = risk

I think that applies big time now we know it'll be Moyes.

The smart money will be on the need for a Plan B now that Plan A has been revealed as Moyes back in the hot seat.

Let's hope these clueless Texans have a Plan B, because we'll need it.
