The Return of Hooliganism

Also, football crowds are policed differently these days. The police let them get on with it, film it and nick them at a later date.
The crowds are different too hence why it’s policed differently. A lot of it is bravado, stand offs at twenty paces and throwing the Vs when safely away.

If there’s a real threat of injury or to life, it’s be dealt with. Think back to the 80s and it was often like the O.K. Carrol at many, many matches.

I remember watching United fans kicking off in the Park End and shouting 'Kill the pigs'. I also remember it being like a whack-a-mole with skulls popping open.

Stanley Park was madness too.

Going 'up North' in the 70s and 80s was not for the faint hearted.

It never went away
This.
The throwing of stuff at Villa players shows this.

Then you might look at the VAR / frustration/ injustices causes.
But 2 wrongs never make a right and nobody wants to see a return of fences

Injustice though
I was there at the so called Battle of Goodison Vs dirty, dirty Leeds.
In a previous FA Cup replay Leeds...In the face of the most Bear Pit, of Bear Pit Goodison under lights I have ever seen before or since, including Bayern, folded in a similar manner that we seem to do now a regular basis now

The fact that it worked and we fell for the 'Get your retaliation in first' plan vindicated Revie's ploy to avoid a repeat of that capitulation, led them to continue that general ethos for 10 more years

The only reason the crowd kicked off was the almost unbearable feeling of frustration that Leeds were getting away with barefaced deliberate unpunished thuggery.

People were seemingly more disciplined then and there were more police - good job too.
iirc, only one or two got on the pitch.

I have no remedies, just some arl boomer dinosaur recollections and perspective.
So what do I know.

Edit; Then as now its not a 'football problem' but a social problem at football matches

I just don’t get why you’d take coke at the match.
I suppose it's become socially acceptable. Knowing it's effects, you have to question the mentality of the people taking it. Your going to be in a very highly charged atmosphere with lots of emotions running high. The last thing you need in that situation is something that will pump you up and magnify any feelings of aggression. It's madness.

It went off with Villa after the game by the Abbey the other week and there was murder after the derby when Everton bounced up to the 12th Man by Anfield about midnight, its deffo becoming worse lately and as others have said its mainly younger lads who are full of charlie. Im the wrong side of 40 now and laugh at the young hoolies wearing the same outfit (stone island or cp overshirt, skinny jeans and adidas city series), think for yourselves lads ffs.

Pringle jumper.
Lee jeans.
Trim trabb.
Small club badge
Uniforms of the 80s.
Same back then

Its deffo weird. Some stand up comedian, and football supporter, on the radio earlier reckons that, post lockdown, too many folk have forgotten how to behave. He sees similar in comedy clubs. Not violence, but way more abusive and offensive "heckles".
