Kone is no more than decent IMO. He wouldn't get a sniff at any of the sides above us or the RS so that makes him not good enough to make a real difference for us

Precisely. Grant Holt scored 15 goals for Norwich the season before last and no-one would have been impressed had £6m been spent on him. He's ok but rather than 2-3 squad players being bought for £10m, I'd rather spend that money on a statement of intent that might make someone like Baines look and think we're not merely content to tread water.

Fortunately that's not how it works.

If he scores more goals than Jelavic/Anichebe, then he'll make a real difference. It really is that simple.

We'd be better off trying to rediscover the Jelavic of a season and a half ago. Who was better than Kone

He's better than Fabio "£12million" Borini. Then there's the other two Spanish lads they've bought...

Strikers are a hot commodity really. You either bag a bargain or pay over the odds.

Personally, I'd go for Darren Bent over Kone, but Martinez has worked with him and knows how he players.

Hes also a grafter that won't be too arsed warming a bench from time to time.

He may score a few but if we are spending 5m or 6m on an average aging striker (ok you can rate him) and give him a 4 years contract then it will be so wrong. I thought people are moaning because our squad have enough aging players and now we are not shy to add a few.

If Kone was coming in as our big marquee signing then I would e worried. But I'm pretty sure he'll be coming in at under 5mil, and for that he will prove an improvement on our current strikers. It's a good signing for what it is - a player that will improve the squad even marginally for a low fee.

The big plays haven't been made yet. I am confident Martinez is planning bigger than Kone and Alcaraz.

Oh look, a bit of common sense.
