I rate James McCarthy, but not at 15m, and he's not the sort of centre mid we need, we need a box-to-box type, like Fer or Capoue, that's why we bid for 3 of those players, James McCarthy's just a mix between Osman and Gibson.

I actually see him exactly as a box to box midfielder meself

His reading of the game is awful for CB, but with Jagielka it wouldn't be so exposed. And he would be actually a decent replacement for Distin. Plus he can play as LCB in 3-man defense .

Only problem for me with a Vermalen/Jagielka partnership is height both are 5'11/6 ft same reason Moyes rarely picked Jgs/ Heitinga as a pair.

We need a playmaker, like Arteta. We never replaced him and that's why we didn't do so well this season. We lacked the final ball to put strikers though, so we played it to the wings where Jelavic had to run (which screwed his scoring).

We've obviously been watching the same player. And have formed an opinion. I like a few others think James McCarthey isn't very good, and certainly not good enough for Everton.

I'm with this. Looks good in a Wigan team who have little quality in midfield, easy for a player with reasonable quality to shine through.

Whilst i like McCarthy, id have Fer over him any day of the week. Also give me Fer over Diame. However, McCarthy at the right price could be a very useful squad player.

Yeah, im hoping Barkley could be this man but is he still too young.

I also think Moyes likes the rightie / leftie combo .. Vermalen is a leftie.
