The Super Tim Cahill Thread.

Given me countless cherished memories. Love the lad and much sadder than I expected I would be to see him go.

Legend we certrainly bandy about with too much ease, and ill-fitting though that term may be I'd have no qualms in bestowing upon him terms like 'icon'. He is an Everton icon. For 8 years, for a generation of kids growing up and teenagers maturing and even bitter arl arses aging, he has inspired many of us, me included. I love him.

NY are using Cahill completely wrong imo. Its as if they didn't scout him at all before buying him, and just bought him based on his reputation.

They had him playing way too far back, forcing him to play a centre mid playmaker role, he could barely get forward to receive a ball in the box. He was also m tarking the post on the first goal, and let the ball go by him, although it would have been tough for him to stop it. I can't recall him ever marking the post for us.

As a DC United fan along with Everton, I'm pretty happy that it appears NY have no idea how to utilize Cahill. I do feel bad for the guy though, it'll be nice if he comes back to Everton in the off-season.

Now, a while back, I posted a transfer rumour that was removed for some reason. It was about an Aussie kid from Blackburn Rovers.

Part of the deal was that Blackburn wanted to loan him out (for reasons beyond me) and the family wanted him to go to a team with an Aussie in it. Everton was one of the teams involved. Now, interestingly, I found out that he was to stay at Blackburn around the same time that Tim was moving on.

Don't know if there's anything in it, but the timing was curious IMHO.

Interview with Cahill about his time at Everton. He's certainly making Everton more visible in the US. Great Toffee ambassador

I loved this article. He is absolute class.

I also watched the game - he's playing better, still clearly not quite match fit (missed an open header, and was 1 on 1 with the keeper and skied his shot over the bar), but also provided an assist. He'll get there.

Watched him play tonight V Dynamo. Played well, played a part in both goals in the Red Bulls 2-0 win over Dynamo.

He assisted the first with a head down to Holgersson who found the net gaping wide open. 1-0

2-0 He holds the ball up on the left against 2 defenders ( IIRC it was him ) while Henry makes the overlap to go 2 on 1 with the keepr and passes it over to Solli who once again finds an open net after the keeper was lured out to Henry.

Other points i noticed to do with Cahil during the game:

Early on gets a strange head to the middle from a Dynamo player. Player was booked.

He got lots of praise through out the game for his premier league record of headed goals. They seem to rather like him.

He blazed a free header inside the box wide from a corner.

Blasts a chance smack bang in the middle of the goal over, but this was a bouncing ball with 2 defenders closing down.

Generally making him self everywhere on the pitch, played the full 90 and seems to be fitting in well in the MLS.

All in all, was good to see him in action and i think he will play a big/effective role for NY RedBulls.

Just watched it a ricochet off a Portland Timber lad. Nice one from outside the box Zoltan Gera like. Good for Timmy.

I can't recall him doing one of those for us either.
