The tele thread

Doesn’t quite get the 4k, or 1080p quality, as some of you rich folks expect. But the remote is on a lead so I never lose that

Those castors will really be helpful when you realise the remote lead is too short, pull it in, change channel, push it back out again so you can see it through the Varifocals!

This is a must have next gen tele!

Off to Rumbelows I go! Other tele rental companies are available

Last time i had a TV was in 2004.

A home-projector blaring light onto a blank white wall is the way to go...massive screen, cinema feels, contrast/brightness/colours/resolution are fine, and much cheaper than those big unwieldy modern tv's.

Only downside is the fan-noise, but you get used to it and if you hook up decent speakers just behind you it drowns out the fan. Another possible downside is you'll need to close the curtains, but it makes viewing more of an event rather than something that's always on. The bulb lasts ages, literally thousands of hours. We've had the current one for over 3 years and it's still strong.

we got this one, the audio interface (going into PC) is handy as you get proper outputs and knob-control of the main volume:

The Optoma HD141x also has its own audio-output (for non-PC use like Playstation etc), is full-HD and 3D-capable - also fine for gaming - and can be had for an affordable 200-300 of your nation's credits, depending on bulb-use (tip if you buy used: the menu-settings say how many hours use it's had).

Bonus tip: put ECO-mode on to quieten the fan, bump the brightness up to compensate.

Home Cinema is truly ace...i'm amazed it hasn't taken off and devoured the telly-market.

only joking a like a rear projection but thats another thread topic

I got an LG smart TV from John Lewis about 4 years ago. Been absolutely delighted with it - good picture decent sound, easy to use. Programmes are crap though so we mainly watch netflix disney and youtube because... well ... endless adverts put us off live TV and the BBC puts me off the BBC.

The LG was a massive mprovement over the absolute crock of poo that was my Sony smart TV. It went out if date and wouldn't play apps about 2 years after purchase and would gave to be switched in for about 40 seconds before you could swap channel or even adjust the volume .Never buy a Sony is my advice. The Panasonic was a good smart TV I had on the boat.

I was contemplating rigging up my generator through the solar inverter for when we get power cuts, but now you mention a cycle powered, quieter alternative for the missus.... at the end of the garden....

Did Mrs Chris interrupt you at this point?
