The Wall - stick or twist?

What should our back four be from now on?

I keep asking for before we chased the game because yes obviously the last 10 minutes is not a good way to play. So what you're telling me is with our chosen setup to start they had two decentish chances and a really low percentage header that happened to go in. For me that isn't bad.

And I don't care who the striker is for them to score 4 they'd have had to have every decent shot go in and that rarely happens.

The first goal also was not easy to score, imo.

We didn't make any good chances in open play which for me says the correct response is to find ways to attack better and not to give up on attacking and just trying to bunker in and play for 0-0s and 1-0s. That's a Big Sam or Dyche reaction to the problem. It is inherently negative and unlikely to get us where we ultimately want to be at the end of this year or any other.
Callum Wilson should have scored four by himself mate and they still had another easy chance as well, can't think who missed it. Our defence was non existent today, Wilson walked through them at will. Midfield poor and listless, our strikers are badly out of form and we have no replacements to change it.

I wish people would understand that having 4 shots does not mean he should have scored 4 goals. Strikers miss.

They’re all FIFA gimps that don’t even recognise the art of defending. In their view, attacking football is a more superior form of football, and it really isn’t!

Further, you don’t get any more points for ‘attacking’ football. All you do is end up losing... all the bloody time!

It makes me sick, the way we are afraid of what other fans will say to us.

And if they’re calling you ‘Burnley with money’, you can almost guarantee that it’s because they haven’t got their own way. We aren’t being called Burnley with money today are we? What are we being called today? Losers! Bottlers! That’s what we are being called today!
Attacking is much more difficult than defending. Therefore, good offensive players usually cost more than defensive players. In general, it is much easier to create a good defensive structure than to create offensive patterns that break down opponents.

That is why clubs like Burnley and the like have this strategy. That's why coaches like Roy Hodgson, Big Sam, are attractive to clubs in the lower half of the PL. Because the only goal is to survive in the division. It involves much higher risk to play offensive football, and it requires much greater individual and collective skills. Both coaches and players need to be far more creative. Just think about it, how many goals are scored in football?

But the most difficult thing in football is the balance between attack and defense.

Back 4 depends on opponent.

Strong physical team
Holgate Mina Keane Godfrey with Digne on the left wing.

Quick team
Coleman Godfrey Holgate Digne

Team with a mixture
Holgate Mina Godfrey Digne

This would allow us to dictate play in every scenario.

Lol maybe we're not as clever as you. The point was he had four really good chances, he could have had 4 and that tells you, because he is a bread and butter striker, our defence was awful today.
It's really not a clever thing. I know you've watched football. A lot of shots don't go in even from good players.

Again you've missed the point, we let them have too many chances. And yes I've watched the odd game in my 60 years mate good spot.
I don't necessarily agree but regardless of that, we gave up too many chances and Wilson should have scored 4 are not the same statement. One is maybe true depending on whether or not you're willing to excuse giving up some good ones when losing discipline chasing the game at the end as I am, the other is just really not.

Tbh mate I thought we were poor for most of that game, only standout for me was Rodriguez in the first half. Thought they made chances throughout the game, we played with zero energy, definitely need a new shiny player, up front but that's my opinion and I realise you may not agree, but Heyho.

I'm not saying we played well but I just disagree with this idea that they made chances all the way through because they had a couple of headers off corners and one good counter. I think we let them have too much of the ball and didn't do a good enough job of pressing them and penning them in but that is a midfield problem.
