The Wire revisited (with spoilers)

Ziggy doesn’t help season 2 either imo.

Correct. Is annoying and makes no sense why anyone would get involved with him.

I don't agree, firstly, he is proverbial and literal family to a close knit bunch who, in part protect and encourage him to screw up.

He's the kid in class who would always take the dare, always be ready to make you laugh and knew himself he wasn't going to amount to much. The relationship with his cousin shows him as a young man who wants desperately to fit in, to make his father proud, but also knows he doesn't have it in him.

He's born into a world where he doesn't belong, he's got enough intelligence to know that and shows some skills - computer literacy for one - that in another, say middle class, environment would have been his route into adulthood.

He's Hamlet-esque, defined by his inability to master and control the position and world he is born in to.

Screw you guys, I am bumping him up to my favourite character.

Young men are always getting involved in things that make absolutely no sense. In the circles Ziggy Sobotka moves in there are is always going to be someone willing to be convinced they're onto something good.

Educated, relatively wealthy and experienced people fall for scams that look ludicrous from the outside on a startlingly regular basis. In an environment where education is poor and desperation is high then someone like Ziggy is always going to find someone to work with - it's shown and alluded that he does have the odd successful trick here and there. He just doesn't handle it very well and gets carried away by his insecurities.

Boy where you gettin your product?

I don't think anyone who rates season 5 ahead of season 3 should be questioning anyone's list- that's a bit like rating Weekend at Bernie's 2 over Life of Brian. Season 5 so obviously the worst season, far-fetched unrealistic plot, and with a big run of average episodes. Despite being saved by the final 3 episodes, which were very good, this was nowhere near enough to elevate it from the most obvious 'worst season' of any great TV series.

There was a sequel?!
