I was discussing with a taxi driver how Liverpool city centre has really cleaned up its act in the last few years in terms of getting rid of junkies and beggers hassling folk walking down the street as its becoming a real problem in Dublin. He basically said that they were all rounded up one day and bussed back to the wirral

As a primary schooler I used to think it was this idyllic place with nature trails and beach oh and the slot machine Mecca of New Brighton. Then when I got older I went to places beside West Kirkby and my opinion changed a little, and not for the better.

Well that is the general area but it was actually from Alfred Dock and the sign said Birkenhead! Still a great view of my home city.

The companies imported labour (from N. Wales in the main IIRR) & and they carried sacks of wool on their backs - hence the term 'woolyback'
