The Zodiac Killer

The Fincher film was superb, that was my introduction to the case. The way Fincher portrayed the on-screen murders was extraordinary - that couple by the lakeside....Jesus Christ that was hardcore...

I Didn't know the Dahlia case had a connection? Crazy if true.

The fact the SFPD never caught the killer is the most disturbing aspect, he would have went on killing for many years and his other murders attributed to other killers or just remained plain unsolved.

I've not read any books about it but will look to remedy that soon enough.

I imagine whoever it was is dead now though.

The actual serial killer, not the films. A modern day Jack the Ripper mystery?

Been reading about this over the past few days while laid up ill.

Several suspect theories abound but a former LAPD detective, Steve Hodel, thinks that his father, George Hodel, was responsible for not only the murder of Elizabeth Short/Black Dahlia (all but confirmed by police), but also the Zodiac murders and even possibly the Lipstick murders.

His father also pretty much signed his name in letters to the police in a 4th century Celtic language. Having read up on all this, I find it a plausible theory. The killings all occured when he was in the same country/area, and very similar killings also occurred in areas he visited abroad at times he was there.

love all this stuff me, probably my biggest interest, unsolved cases and the like, and solved, just fascinated by the mind of these people

(my mrs thinks im a weirdo/possible murder myself haha)

Robert Ivan Nichols is the best bet for me although there are of course many question marks over him. He lived near the area, stole an identity of a dead child, ran away from his family, writing samples show some similarities and he killed himself in a 2002 - a year when Zodiac's DNA was tested (and he said to his pals "they're getting close").

Hodel would be too old. We have a sketch of Zodiac and he doesn't look like an old man at all.

I remember reading a true-crime book about the Zodiac back in the early 90s...was really scary and compelling. Then when the film came out about 10 years ago, it got me thinking again about this crazy case. I hadn't read about they hypothesis regarding Hodel, but I'm gonna chase it up.

[Edit: in looking up the Hodel hypothesis, it seems there are quite a few naysayers suggesting he would have been too old to commit those crimes among other things...I have no opinion on the matter however]

Damn it, thought this would be a thread about the good old ford zodiac with the trusty Wessex v6 engine, much loved by the rozzers in z cars.

Tv. Meh.

Here’s a couple of the sites I’ve looked at;

As for Hodel, there is actually a sketch of an older man;
