For the record I do actually think Walcott will be a good signing for us.

If we actually play attacking football that fits him in.

Is that it?

Debate the differences between them with me.

He was technically gifted
He glided past people like they weren’t there
He was comfortable on either his right or left peg, hence why he was a constant danger
He could go past a defender on the outside and leave him chasing shadows or drop a shoulder and go inside and leave 3 defenders and a couple of midfielders looking for him
His natural footballing ability was one of pure skill, timing of passes, knowing when to run or pull out wide

Andrei Kanchelskis was probably one the most dangerous wingers in Europe

But you'd know by watching Walcott that he's the guy getting put in behind, not the guy putting others through. His shooting and goal threat stats are very good there, his creativity is not. But then anyone who thinks we signed Walcott as a playmaker obviously hasn't watched him before. He's there to stretch the defence and run beyond the forward.

Who has suggested he's being put in as a number 10?

Wide players tend to get assists as well as goals. Walcott has been consistently criticised for running down blind alleys and for having a poor final ball.

Anyone who's watched him would know that.

Only for a few years. He was rubbish after us and had quite a short career. In fact I think Walcott has probably had a longer one. I still love him in his pomp though

Wonder if the Andrei Kanchelskis signing would have had the same amount of negativity had GOT been around back in the day.

Man Utd cast off.

Leaving a top 4 team for a lower premier league club.

Walcott offers us just as much as Kanchelskis potentially did, and he went on to be a god in many Evertonian's eyes and he did it in a squad which was just as useless, if not worse than the one we have now.

Walcott has said he wants to play a more centrally attacking role, good, because that is exactly where we need him.

He will give us back a pacey counter attack option which we are badly missing at the moment.

The lad knows where the goal is too.

He knows the situation we are in, he knows we are struggling and still he is ready to commit to us, yes i know the wedge is good, but i bet Kanchelskis didn't come for peanuts either.

Stop beating him up before he has even signed on the dotted line.

Surplus to requirements at Arsenal, and it's not as if he's picked us ahead of a number of other clubs though is it mate? Supposedly it was us or Southampton (who are in a worst state than us) after him.

Obviously if he signs for us he'll get my backing, and a fair chance to prove he can do the bizz.

There seems to be allot of negative hyperbole on Arsenal forums so I thought I'd stick my head in here and give you my view of this transfer as a more balanced Gooner. He's overly disliked because he's a limited played and when he isn't scoring/assisting he's pretty much invisible. The good news is he scores and assists quite allot. He also was out of form after a long term injury in 2014 and not scoring and was hated after he jumped out of the way of a 50-50 challenge a couple of years ago, which I think was down to fear of re-injury. But he did get back to scoring 19 goals last season in all comps and his goals/assists per game over the last 18months is back to being pretty high.

Walcott's strength is his off the ball movement, which is elite, he's not just quick he makes really intelligent runs and his 1-2s can be effective. He's all the better in open games where he can run in behind and over the years he has scored in the big games. We part put this down to him having space to run into, which as a possesion side he can't use so much against smaller teams. Many of us always thought he maybe much more effective at a mid-table team where he would have more space to run into.

Technically he isn't a brilliant player but he's more than a pace merchant in that his finishing and passing is intelligent, he does get his head up and makes good decision. As Theo has got older he's dribbled less with the ball and I wonder if he's lost some pace. I'm not sure if that's conserving energy to make runs in behind or instruction. It will be interesting to see if he's asked to dribble more by Big Sam.

Overall he should come in and get you a good number of goals and assists but won't be a player who dominates games or makes chances out of nothing. He'll be 29 in March but hasn't been over played in recent times so should be fresh and he's professional and always in good shape. I'd imagine he'll do better playing week in week out in a different set up. I think it'll be a decent signing for 20m in this market and it'll be interesting to see if he sinks or swims.

Thanks for the honest insight mate, although not all that interested in his dribbling, one on one's and assist ratio. What we're dying to find out is.....

Can he help to park Big Sams Bus ??

Fiorentina killed him for some bizarre reason, just couldn’t adapt to the Italian league. Saying that, that’s when the Italians were ace at defending and could kill a game

He was marvellous though, the hatrick at Sheffield Wed, tearing Blackburn apart at Ewood, the goal against Leeds and of course at the pit

I’d swap everyone in our team to see him again, absolutely worldie

Have heard a fair few Arsenal fans saying one of the most frustrating things about him is how many times he get's caught offside mate.
