I think when he first came he had that bit of “I’ve got a point to prove here and I’m better than what you think”......may have even seen himself with an outside chance of an England squad call up twelve months ago.....and us telling him that we are looking at building a squad that gets us Champions League during your contract and we think you help get us there. Probably deluded on both counts!

In fairness he started brightly here and made a difference. But as both the England call up prospects disappeared and the realisation of where we really were at....with him in the team....in relation to European prospects we are left with the malaise of another player who simply now goes through the motions and wonders where it all went wrong realising that he won’t get another contract better than what he has now so will sim see it out.

Wel’ll see the odd flashes no doubt, but as decent a bloke he probably is, he ain’t going to massively influence Everton’s on field ambitions. He just doesn’t deliver on a consistent basis, his finishing is below average given the clear chances he gets presented, sure he has pace but lacks the influence to change games regularly. Will become a member of the match 18 for the rest of this season, but looks another future problem on our books, like Bolaise/Sandro/Tosun/Morgan who earns that much he is tough to move on, but simply isn’t a part of the solution.

He did okay when he came on. Not bad, not good.

Honestly, he came on with 12 minutes left when it was total backs to the wall.

He did his job.

It's so weird, you come on here after a win, and it's just loads of people slagging every player off.

We deserve all we get. Toxic fanbase.

Don't have to be a happy clapper to see it.

Think I'd prefer to keep him until the summer. He's not had the greatest of seasons but having someone to push lookman or come in if / when injuries or suspension strikes is sensible. Unless Brands is bringing in top class competition for the right in this window of course.

Now that Bernard and Lookman have finally proven they offer vastly more he needs selling.

I never had an issue with punting him, I just wanted him replacing first and somebody to prove they are a better option, something I feel Lookman and Bernard have very much done.
What happens when Lookman or Bernard (or both) get injured?

I went onto the match thread after about 30 minutes not knowing the score. The rhetoric was so bad I guessed we must have been about 2 or 3 down. I was both relieved and surprised to see it was still scoreless when I checked the BBC sports site.

Oh he would need replacing for sure.

I think most that we sell from now would need replacing, body for body kinda thing.

But would probably wait till the Summer to sell tho.
Yeah.

As you say, I don't mind getting rid provided we replace him in the squad with a better model first. Whether that be another wide man, or a first choice striker enabling Richarlison to play in what I consider to be his preferred position.

Totally with you on Rico, the lads simply not a Striker.

But I stuck up for Walcott a lot at the start of the season, cos I think people turned on before he even became useless, at the start he was producing, granted it wasnt for long, but hes been quite poor recently.

As I keep saying, theres not many players I wouldnt sell and replace tomorrow if given the choice.

That's really it. His movement is good. He's fast. He works. But just doesn't make good enough decisions with the ball to be a top flight player. Simple as that. Doesn't mean he's not useful, but with a limited budget, he's not worth it. Still need him now, but probably could move him in the summer.

Thats not really true is it Goat, you were 'after' posters who didnt want him, didnt rate him and were judging him on his performances and effectiveness.

You loved him...

I just pointed out that he was still our best option, until Lookman or Bernard showed they were.

Neither have proven it without doubt, but I think both have a better upside than Walcott currently.

Im allowed to change my views on players, as their effectiveness shrinks, so does the reason to keep them around.
