The battle of overly praised despite being average at best tactically managers goes the way of Bobby. England end with wins over Sweden Tunisia and Panama and defeats to Belgium twice and Croatia. But big things to come from them this is only the start.

I know its doing my head in. When its sterling its hes been poor etc, as soon as its kane oh he's got a knock, hes injured. Hes been awful all tournament, the goals and pundits make people believe hes been brilliant when he hasnt

If Southgate was arsed with 3rd place he would have gone full strength.

The whole England attack was too slow. Sterling was woeful in this tournament. The chances he had wasted and consistently lost the ball. The back-up do not help too. Dier was soooo clumsy and I can see why the RS captain started instead. Rose wow just dreadful defending today.

Reality: he flopped...BADLY.

It's only this year we have been hearing from gerrard and rio and co about how they didn't want to give away anything to club rivals while playing for England. So I assume England fans are pretty pleased to see a distinct move away from that attitude. I thought the shortfalls of a cm like henderson were very obvious, theres not really much personal wise to change it now, so moving to a back three of good footballers with utilizing the wing backs was a smart move.

I've said it a lot but the ability to keep the ball in tournament football is huge, so that will need addressing but as said with the formation change I think Southgate at least recognizes the problem. Some hyperbole over England but to be honest mainly from pundits and the media than the actual fans, but a decent effort and something for them to build on

Given the squad Belgium, they ought to get good results. The elite squad.
