A big part of my role with GrandOldTeam is to make it as accessible as possible to all segments of the fan base.

After a comment from one fan, I asked a few Blues to visit and give me some feedback. One area was consistent and pretty damning, and that was it isn't easy to find the latest Everton news/opinion on GrandOldTeam.

As an example. Deulofeu signed. There was a Deulofeu thread, started way back in June 2013, starting with "Who the hell is this lad?" posts - they had to wade through a lot of pages asking who he was, before posts about him signing in the first instance, then posts about hoping he stays, then about him over in Spain, then loads about maybe he'll come back... to find the most recent discussion.

Another point was that on first glance, it wasn't easy to see the latest news. Threads titles were overly vague.

All fair points. Our 'visit' to 'register' to 'post' conversion is pretty poor, meaning loads visit, not many register, and even fewer post. I'm pretty sure this could be a reason why. Loads visit from social media/email/google, then struggle with navigating the forum.

So, in an effort to improve - we're adapting the Everton forum's 'megathreads' threads for next season - by megathread, I mean the massive threads that cover one broad topic.

It's a small change, but one that I think will really help. From 1st August, we'll be creating threads per season. An example will be individual player threads. Rather than a transfer thread from years back becoming the place where all subsequent discussion remains on that player, we'll be creating threads like "'2014/15 Performances' - James McCarthy";

These threads will use thread prefixes, so you can click them and instantly bring up all similar threads. So clicking '2015/16 Player Performance' will bring up all threads relating to player performances - like so;

James McCarthy renewing a contract, would warrant a new thread. As would any comments he makes to the media etc.

The above should give us a healthy balance between new, current thread content, and keeping the forum organised.

Think it clutters it up for me, that's probably ingrained into the culture of the Man Utd forum you're linking but just seems like duplication to me and no doubt many others on here.

What do you think John Stones has for tea lads? Or just one thread containing everything about John Stones. For any user clicking on it the relevant trending topic about that player will be getting discussed on the most recent pages. So its not so hard to navigate it I reckon.

Depends though doesn't it ?

If we end up with trivial player threads every time a player farts or says something mundane to the press, then it'll be gash. But for major stuff like injuries and contracts it makes sense to let it have it''s own thread

I've been brainwashed in mod central though

You give the masses far to much credit, if theres 1 post for a transfer, 1 post for an injury and 1 post for matches, they wont bother checking which is which, they will just post in whichever they see first.

Now you will counter with "but the hottest topic threads will be the 1 they see first", but thats not the case, the hottest topic thread will be whichever the first dude who saw the news posts in.

And that will be moderated.

As I say, it works very well elsewhere.

I've never knowingly over estimated a users intelligence.

I'll just ban 'em for being off topic. Job done, it's all part of the master plan

Redcafe is 1 of the worst looking forums ive had the misfortune to look at, the whole thing just looks horrible and cluttered.

Same for RAWK, yeah they both get the hits, but I think thats down to fanbase rather than content.

Now this site on the other hand, is just lovely on the eye.

Just sayin.

Its dead easy to navigate it though. If John Stones gets injured on Saturday then I know the last few pages will be about his injury as that's the current topic.

But that thread is one useful reference point for all content about John Stones, so you can even chart his evolution (or in our case vault) from when he first joined.

Cluttering the forum with multiple threads about the same player won't bring much improvement for the confusion it will cause.

Not my trainset but you wanted feedback so here it is.

Nice one.

Recall you being vocally against the new software too...

Fully agreed mate.

At least we know what GOT is and should be.

I think thats when you mentioned about replacing rep with them thumbs wasnt it??

But you are indeed correct, I hate change, but I think this change is a step in the right direction, I would just prefer you to go that little bit further and keep all the John Stones talk in the John Stones 1 thread. Maybe you could allow threads to run a little, I mean let the John Stones transfer thread run until the window shuts, then merge maybe?
