It sounds like you dont know how european footballers are primarily trained up in one position. They focus on the attributes required for that position.

Both Lampard and Dyche have supported this and explained precisely why hes been used in both an unfamiliar position and unfamiliar roles.

Now, I'm not saying im a "top fan" but their comments were freely available for anyone to read.

As for your comment, it's about as intelligent as not understanding by now what type of player he is. Especially when Belgium are on the box and its quite clear.

So, two managers and his international games confirm what im saying.

If that bores you then perhaps stop complaining and try and learn something about development, positions and roles?
There you go. Boring as always.
I don’t need to have your degree in Anchoristic study to know that Onana, who played in exactly the same position, can be unplayable at times but sadly that was only a handful of times. He certainly has the ability to do everything an anchor can do and beyond but why can’t he perform the same way at a regular basis. Lack of desire or effort?

While most in the forum can figure out he was not trying his best every game, you continue with your anchor rant weekend after weekend. It’s not about football or tactics, it’s about effort and desire.

Like I say many times, if you’re strolling around most of the time, it’s no longer about tactics, it’s about effort. Now go on to goners forum and educate them your anchoristic thesis.

Effort doesnt equate to "running around alot". The best players both at CB and DM were those who can stroll through games as you put it. Its about positioning and reading of the game.

I cant help it if you cant take that information on board. Or if its boring to you.

That is all part of football.

Iroegbunam for example would be thrilled to be learning from Onana.

PS he hasnt been playing in the anchor role for Everton. He also isnt playing the Everton role for Belgium.

You know what’s weird mate?
His best games were the ones he RAN a lot. Trying to impose himself wherever he could, covering large distance, from sprint recoveries, running with the ball and closing down effectively and it’s weird you’re saying he’s not suppose to run around and influence games.
Remember rs at Goodison 2022/23?

What I'm saying is that those games you're highlighting are fine and I probably agree with you about him doing well in games like that.

But...and for me its a big but...thats not his best role or position. Also, ive seen with my two peepers that Dyche for 2 games saw Onana bringing the ball up the pitch and was waving and yelling then Onana stopped dead, passed the ball and jogged back into position while we were still attacking.

In basic non boring terms im just saying hes a 6 being played as an 8. As an 8 hes being given different roles. Thats great in developing an all round player if we keep him long term -- but he would be better for us if we used him as a 6. But we cant do that as we use Doucoure at 10 instead.

Why werent Busquets or Makelele used at 8 ? Both of them would not be as good.

Makes a whole lot more sense with the full picture. If he turns out to be Tom Davies 2.0, he still fulfills two functions. One at signing, and one as a squad player to cover/soak minutes.

If he turns into more, fantastic! If not, there are far worse ways to bounce dice.

We're continuing to do well on the 'out' side of the ledger, which is a nice change of pace from previous years. Hopefully the business on the 'in' side, starting here, will prove more 2022 than 2023.
