2024/25 Tim Iroegbunam

Looks raw. If we hadn't signed him Villa would probably have sent him for another season on loan in the championship which would have done him good.

I thought he was slightly better than his last few sub appearances when he was awful. Doesn't seem to have much about him, which is unsurprising when he was a swap for Lewis Dobbin.

It's worth noting with Tim, that he's 21 and coming off an injury.

I had a look at his numbers and they are quite striking. He is not only in the top1% of midfielders for things like tackles and ball recoveries (in fact he is better than the the person generally the best-Ugarte) but he is also exceptional at ball carrying, like top 5% of the league or whatever.

The flip of this is he is woeful at passing He make's bottom 1% of passes, and his short and medium passing percentage is like bottom 20%.

Now don't get me wrong, some of this is down to him mainly coming on in games, under Dyche where we are defending a lead, so you'd imagine the numbers revert a little bit. However he is basically very good at dribbling, excellent at winning the ball back and bad at passing.

He still has room to improve at 21 and I still think he can be a useful player for us, but some good coaching would help him. I would still play him a bit further forward.

I don’t get where he excels if I’m honest. Positionally he struggles when played deeper, attacking wise doesn’t offer enough. If he can be moulded into a Gana type player there might be a way forward, but just seems a bit of a journeyman in the making.

Think that’s harsh, has had a few good cameos for me. Clearly a talent too.

That said, he’s been a mixed bag of good, bad and ugly. Hopefully we beat West Ham and then give him a few starts. We need to know where we are with him.

Great analysis. Appreciate you gathering all that data. Well thought out and balanced.
