Tinnitus

15 years of chronic high-pitched tinnitus due to otosclerosis, it's brutally loud, nothing masks it and there's not a minute that goes by where I don't think about it.

First two years with it were incredibly depressing and by far the bleakest period of my life. It didn't help that I'd spent my entire life obsessed with music production, studied it, and developed a skillset good enough to make a career from it only to then have it all undone due to hearing loss and tinnitus by the age of 27.

The crazy thing is that the old people in music production suffer from it, and do it anyway.

I can't even imagine how good your ears would have to be to crank out something like Back in Black over the ringing in your ears.

Anyone else suffer with it, had it for about 5 weeks now and it's driving me nuts, made a few lifestyle changes but it's not going anywhere so it's probably a trip to the Dr's. I know there is no real cure for it and I don't think I'm losing my hearing it's one of the few things in me that is actually pretty razor sharp normally, just this ringing in my ears is so hard to block out at times.
Do you live opposite a church ? Joking - No it's bad the GPs surgeries now have stopp carrying out ear syringing it has to be done at the hospital- they have modern suction techniques now - that may help - my son suffers terrible with tinnitus- anti - biotics are only a temporary fix ...

By all accounts there is no answer.

Having suffered temporarily you and yours have my utmost sympathy. It's maddening in the short term. Can't imagine permanence.

I know a certified audiologist who does home visits to carry out ear wax removal and syringing.
DM me and I can pass on contact details.

I have had it for decades. It is constant. However I am so used to it that most of the time I don't notice it. Now that it has been brought up though my ears are ringing like crazy. I will go back to ignoring it later. I blame The Who. Went to a concert by them at the Empire in Liverpool in the early seventies, they had sound volume turned up to 11, deafening!

They were not loud.

Motorhead in a two thousand person indoor venue is loud.

So glad my kids got to see them a couple months before Lemmy passed. (with earplugs)

I'm guessing deafness is a common thing for those operating a concert sound desk. I say this because I've had to leave a number of performances because the music was so loud it was distorting and physically hurt me. One was an acoustic set, where I had to leave and listen from the foyer. Not so bad at a festival, where I can listen from another field - but it never sounds as good with wind distortion.

Rick Beato brought this to the forefront.

Most everyone in the business suffers from it, but no one admits it, because it could cost them their jobs.

He just happens to be in a place where he can talk about it.

Yeah, I do. For ages. Don't really notice it now. I just find I struggle to hear people talking quietly and my talking voice is probably a shout to anyone normal.

I probably come across as an angry nutter in all social interactions.

Had it for decades, you learn to live with it. I find it gets set off if I think about it, or read this sort of a thread. I’ll put it out of my mind and it will go away…..
Same for me. Had it about 20 years. Hasn't had an effect on my hearing I don't think. When it initially started I got really anxious about it but now I forget it's there most of the time.
