Tipping

As a teacher we would rarely get a tip - even though we put up with a parent's little scrote for a year while busting a gut to open the door for their little turds' future. It was normally something like a box of tea bags around Christmas. Not even cash ffs - it's like the (rare) grateful parent was convinced we'd use cash for hard drugs.

At least that's how I saw it.
What hard drugs would you have bought if they'd given you cash?

Seen a lot of posts on insta & TikTok where even our American cousins are getting fed up of tipping.
Every food and beverage outlet now seems to have a POS machine that gives the opportunity to tip starting at 15% with options for 18%, 20% and custom, regardless of whether you are actually waited on or simply a pre-made butty is rung up on the till.
Expectations have risen almost as fast as the actual quality of service at most places has dropped.

I always ask the waiter if they see any of the tip if I do this. Been told in a few places that they don’tt

the few times I've bought a car I usually throw in a cash tip of some sort after the deal is sorted. it's nothing compared to what they (should) make selling, but it's still something. even used that as a bargaining chip when we were bickering over $300 in price, "they're not going to pay you any extra if you sell it for $300 more, are they?" [I got it for the lesser price]

In cash days I would always tip, but I find that most of the time these days I dont have cash.

I'm a bit thick and not at all English but I can't figure out how to tip in England using a card machine, not that I even know the proper way to ask for a bill/card machine. In the US there's a certain dance to bringing out the ticket before the customer asks for it but not so soon it looks like they're being rushed off, but we also eat meals extremely fast compared to anyone else who lives an breathes, so some Yanks get mighty bent if they have to wait 2-3 minutes to be presented with their bill.

You have to ask over here, even then it seems like they try their best to ignore you so you cant ask for it.

Its always some weird routine of trying to catch their eye while they try their very best to ignore eye contact.

Just reading a post from another forum and hope they dont mind me replicating it.
"I've just enquired to an American company about getting some replacement parts - they were helpful and all that, but the 2nd email I got from them had a link to tip the person who had answered my email! WTF"
