Tipping

Happy to leave the staff a tip - how much depends on the quality of the service, and always tip in cash.
Never happy to pay the"discretionary" service charge that automatically seems to get added to the bill, discretionary or not!

Always tip when eating out, having a drink etc. I'll also tip the petrol pump attendants who get paid a pittance. (they don't trust you to fill you tank here, they tried a few years back... Didn't last)

I tip my barber once a year, closest haircut to new year. (it's a decent tip)

The good lady is a notorious mingebag. I'll often tip for her out of shame if she's paying the bill lol

Tipping and sales tax is a US gimmick to underpay staff, in most of Europe its included in the price where there are no hidden fees

If you believe it is reasonable to tip a food server for bringing your food to you, what are you giving your doctors or nurses for taking care of your wellbeing?

Sales tax can be extreme in some cities/regions, but it does go to good uses, such as police/fire, water/sewer, etc. Tipping is most definitely a way for restaurants to underpay servers.

Uses that should be part of what your taxes go towards to begin with rather than passing it on to the people

What’s everyone’s thoughts on tipping?

I’m a generous tipper, I’ll usually tip around 20% of the bill when we go for food, especially if we get good service.

I also tip my barber, taxi drivers, delivery drivers and bar tenders, but I think that’s cos I’ve got family who work or worked in hospitality and was always taught to tip.

Some of my mates will either refuse to tip, or tip a small amount, as they think the person serving is already being paid so doesn’t need a tip.

Interested to know what other people’s thoughts are on this.

Seems to be a regional thing too mate.

I know where my missus is from in Yorkshire, they don`t tend to tip anyone outside of restaurants, that includes cabbies, bar staff and hairdressers.

When I first started drinking there, I automatically told the girl behind the bar " and yours ", which is the norm around by us take 20 / 30p, she took the price of a full drink.

That taught me a valuable lesson lol

I usually order my meal and then stand up and insist my server sits down whilst I bring them my meal which I insist they eat and then I leave them a 70% tip and pay for the meal

I chuck pound coins at the window of trains, hoping it will smash through the driver's window and the drivers find the one pound tip and carry on with their journey

It's the least I can do
