Be interesting to see whether the bell whiffs play a weak side at home to Bournemouth

They aren’t playing Bournemouth, they play Moyes’ Hammers again in front of ‘dat atmerspear’ on Monday, they have no need to play a weakened side as the Atletico second leg isn’t until the 11th March

The OP was correct
They play Bournemouth at the pit on Saturday the 7th of march
They play Athletico Madrid at the pit on Wednesday the 11th of March,
Klopp may well play a weakened side against Bournemouth
They then play us (thats Everton for @havrey0123 ) on the 16th March at Goodison

Didn't want to start a new thread on this but apparently Arsene Wenger has suggested a change to the current off-side rule to make it easier to make decision either for the linesman or VAR.

The change will go from....
a player is offside if any part of their body with which they can score is ahead of the last defender
to....
you will not be offside if any part of the body that can score a goal is in line with the last defender, even if other parts of the attacker's body are in front

Personally I don't see how this will make it any easier to get the right decisions.

Whatever the definition of off-side is it comes down to a point on the defenders body aligning with a point on the attackers body. There are always going to be very fine margins of how far apart those 2 points are and mistakes will be made.

I think the only way of getting accurate decisions every time is to get all the players to wear a chipped belt similar to the goal line technology. If the chip on the attacker is in front of the chip on the defender then you're offside. A signal can be sent to the ref and the linesman. Obviously not feasibile at grassroots level but neither is VAR.

I guess they reckon seeing daylight is more accurate than those daft lines they use.

Regarding offside, let's just deem the law if any part of the attacking player's body is in line with any part of the defender's body, then it's onside. If the VAR line deems it too close to call, then the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacker. These marginal decisions would even themselves out over a season.

Right now we have far too much "his shoulder is possibly 0.2mm offside" and "it looks like his armpit might just about be offside", with 15 different camera angles looked at and 2 minutes taken before making a decision. If a decision needs that long, then it defers to the "too close to call" and thus the benefit of the doubt is given to the attacker.

The VAR decision is shown on the screens in the ground and the referee must consult the monitor by the dugout for every single penalty, red card and goal decision.

What would arguments against the above be? Other than it would no longer benefit the Sky clubs.

I kind of agree with this but where some people think 5mm is too close to call, others will think 30mm is too close to call.
Offside is always going to be a subjective decision prone to human error.

True but you can 100% prove very quickly that the attacker is almost certainly either onside or not offside enough for the eye to detect it without technology. We shouldn't be using microscopes, AI and tonnes of camera angles to prove a player is 0.1mm offside.
