There were bizarre scenes in Germany on Saturday afternoon in the Bundesliga clash between Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich at the PreZero Arena.

Bayern were 6-0 up when, in the 77th minute, the game was interrupted when Bayern fans unveiled a banner insulting Hoffenheim’s owner Dietmar Hopp.

The players briefly left the pitch before returning - and then things started to get really strange.

Rather than play on, the two sets of players began passing the ball to each other. Per German football writer Archie Rhind-Tutt on Twitter, the players went out and agreed not to score in the final 15 minutes in solidarity with Hopp.

This resulted in bizarre scenes where the players were literally not trying to beat each other. Instead, red and blue shirts interchanged passes as if they were teammates.

Never seen anything like that before, what did the banner say.

The offensive banner roughly translates as “Hopp is a son of a bitch” and the German billionaire is unpopular with supporters throughout the Bundesliga because of the heavy investment he has made in the Sinsheim club to propel them from the German lower leagues and up to the Bundesliga.

Been looking into it as well. Apparently, he is the only club owner to own more than half the club. All the others have a majority fan ownership, apart from Wolfsburg and another who are works teams.

Quite why that is anyones business is lost on me mind.

I suppose it is a protest to show that fans don't want the Bundesliga turning into the Premier League in terms of despotic mega owners.

Was watching that game. Ref stopped the game and the Bayern manager went over to Talk to the fans. Game carried on for a bit then the ref stopped it again. Manager went over again along with Salihamidzic (spelling?), Oliver Kahn, Rumenigge and the players to remonstrate with the fans. Ref then took the players off.
No idea what kind of insults were being directed at the Hoffenheim owner.

Similar stench to Germany v Austria 1982

Many moons ago, Bristol City and Coventry did the same when the score from Goodison, (Everton 2 0 Sunderland) meant they would both stay up if their game stayed at 2 2.

By a "strange" coincidence, the Cov/Bris match was delayed by 10 minutes, cos the Bristol team and supporters were delayed in leaving Bristol, and the other strange coincidence was that the Bristol Manager, Alan Dicks, was a mate and ex employee of Cov chairman, Jimmy Hill.

Not a lot of people know that.
