It's not a problem at all for me, but then that's the whole point really, I as a fan would be prepared to do something more than just switch over but as I have a smart TV with the prime app on it is just as easy anyway.

The whole point is an awful lot (the vast majority by a massive margin - possibly 90% of the tv viewing audience) will not be that interested in Everton Vs Southampton anyway and anything that requires more effort to watch than just using the remote would almost certainly be enough to persuade them to give it a miss.

In effect it won't be comparable to having it free to air on a TV channel at all, as some (a small proportion, but in terms of their likely viewing figures, a big percentage) of those only half interested (at best) may turn over to have s look if it was.
I personally don't see the problem. It's much more accessible than say sky or bt which are priced extortionately.

Beyond that, you don't need prime sub this time round for amazon.

You've obviously not understood the point. Free to air premier League matches is the key

Sky and the BBC have their 'free to air' matches on a TV channel readily accessible to all using the TV remote, for many (without a smart TV, Amazon stick or a tv connected to another device - with the internet therefore accessible) this will not be the case with Amazon.

BT sport have NONE of their matches free to air.

Hence a likely challenge to the all time low viewing figure for a premier league match broadcast free to air.

Do tvs that aren't smart even exist anymore?

Everybody has a phone, and in 30 seconds I could be using any of the platforms available to watch the game.

The viewership for a saints v Everton game is likely not going to draw a crowd in even if it was free. We aren't particularly entertaining to watch

Good point this.
There are games that you can watch that would never in a million years usually be on the telly.
I’d say tonight’s Burnley / Watford game wouldn’t make it onto Sky under normal circumstances for example.
Our game last night would deffo usually be a candidate for last on MOTD rather than be shown live also ?

Most people who haven't bought a TV relatively recently won't have a smart TV. The penetration of smart TVs has still not cracked the 50% figure on the latest available figures, which means that a majority will not have one.

With this not being a very great chance of the match being that enthralling to anyone but the most committed fans of either side, there is even less incentive for those who may normally have switched over if on another TV channel (and nothing else on) to do so.

Watching a stream on a PC or a phone is not the same as watching via a smart TV - and even less incentive to watch for many

It also perhaps points to the validity of my original post's assertion that it very well might challenge the all time viewing low for any premier league game shown live on free to air TV.

The mode of broadcasting being a large part of the reasoning, as other potentially dull borefests have been covered before now, and is why I said 'nominally' free to air - although it definitely qualifies as such.

Didn't realise such a low percentage had moved onto smart TVs.

Don't get me wrong, i understand completely where you are coming from - but I think you're over-estimating the issues at hand. I don't believe the viewing figures would be that high even if it was shown on the BBC, and the difference between it being on amazon won't make a dent big enough worth mentioning. (Mind you this is my personal opinion and I could be completely wrong).

I'm going to honest and say more people I know have amazon subs than they do sky subscriptions for example.

I think recently the derby was the highest viewed Premier league game when it was on pick TV, and even then I found it easier to stream it online because my ariel sucks lol.

I personally would welcome football switching to streaming services completely rather than sky/bt subs.

Yes in time the penetration of smart TVs will reach almost everyone (which is possibly 80% as some old sets will be in use for the foreseeable future tbh).

Pick TV is sky's Freeview channel but I don't blame you one bit on watching via streaming in those circumstances, no wonder - I definitely would too.
