When VAR is using the thickness of the sleeve of a player to determine offside, then we have a problem.

Also, is it supposed to be used for only 'clear and obvious', or am I getting that wrong?

If we want VAR to stay for future use it's going to need to be judged from the players feet/boot positioning. All of this shoulder stuff just makes the whole thing look ridiculous.

I thought that was the case that only parts of your body which could be legitimately used for scoring....foot, knee, chest, head etc......had to be offside.

And that arms or hands didn’t count.

Seems I was wrong.

But the angle they are showing does not even show for certain that Pukki’s arm was “offside” IMO.

Yep it was marketed as a tool to clear up the clear and obvious errors. Instead we are using it to make millimetre tight calls and turning the whole technology in to a farce. It's not VAR that is the problem it's the clowns using it.

The way we use it needs a serious overhaul. A bit of leeway needs to be introduced because the technology isn't perfect in the first place. If there is no clear daylight between the drawn lines then the original decision should stand. You aren't gaining an advantage because your armpit is one centimetre ahead of a defenders ffs.

Was just saying the same thing to my mate.

Just put a chip inside the sole of the boot. It’ll know how big the boot is, angle of shoe, goa etc etc. can work it out from there in milliseconds.

Would solve it all. Then VAR can only be used fraudulently on penalty shouts & fouls
