Today’s Football 2020/21 Season

Our former tubby defender Ashley Williams has announced his retirement. Honestly didn't think he could go on another season after us, never mind another 4 or 5.

TBF he was played with the wrong people - for Wales, he was always part of a three with two quicker players either side.

We never did that, and only for about 7 games played with with a pacy colleague (Holgate, after BFS arrived until the Derby and Holgate was ostracised). Playing him with Keane and especially Jags was daft at the time and seems ludicrous now that we have a competent manager.

Good luck to him in his retirement, yes he won’t be remembered that fondly here but us Welsh will always look on him fondly - if for no other reason than his goal vs Belgium, and his performances at the 2016 Euros generally.

So the genius' at the PL have now changed the rules mid season to make sure the Man City V Villa error doesnt happen again. All without technically admitting the made a mistake. Absolutely baffling levels of incompetence

I really hope Dean Smith and Aston Villa give this the attention it deserves.

Not the 1st time that things have been changed mid season, while saying they cant change other rules during season saying it would not be right and unfair

All mid week games this week and next week are on BT Sport

I wouldn't hate it if someone at PGMOB grew a set of balls and stood up for themselves. I get why people didn't like what happened but it was refereed correctly and the outrage was not enough to change the rules midseason. The same is true with the handball thing earlier on in the year.

I'd agree & excuse the aggressive font btw, I think it was from C&P the image.

My issue here, is it wasnt a rule that needed changing, it was another occasion of the VAR official simply not having the competence to apply the rule correctly. So instead of PGMOL saying, "we got that wrong, sorry" we have this circus of changes to address.

VAR didn't get it wrong though based on how the law is written did they? I mean Mings played the ball and at that instance everyone is onside again.

I disagree - VAR took a position, that law is open to interpretation. Because Rodri tackled (Knicked the ball), he didnt receive it from Mings and thus it should have been offside. If he was lurking and Mings messed up a passback to keeper then on.

Today is an exercise in whataboutery, which shouldnt be happening

It really isn't that open to interpretation. It says intentionally playing the ball or something on those lines and that is defined.

There is no interpretation of whether Mings plays the ball or not. What is open to interpretation is whether Rodri recieved the ball or not. He clearly didnt, he tackle Mings which is why it should have remained off side, as he was "interfering with an opponent by impacting on the opponent’s ability to play the ball"

Crystal clear clarification given because our referees are so crap that they couldn't use common sense and interpret the rules correctly in the first place.

They haven't needed to change the rules because, as I said, the rules already covered this.
