Today’s Football 2020/21 Season

I think pace has been an equaliser of sorts for a long time in the Premier League. Quality will win out over the course of the season but average teams have finished in European places because of it.

Same for average player's with pace.

Even when we had speed in the side, during Martinez's reign he was so caught up in his philosophy it wasn't utilized as much as it could have been.

We are slow paced and weak willed. I just hope that Ancelotti can pull off a miracle this season and we can improve our squad next.

When Martinez had McCarthy Barkley Mirallas Lukaku in the side with Stones and Distin and the two fullbacks we had pace and power throughout the side in every position except Barry. We could go toe to toe with most teams. For some reason we then moved out some quick players and started putting out Alcaraz Kone Cleverley etc. slower players.

We need to return to the days of having one to 11 quick powerful players who can all play. We’re not going anywhere with this lot trundling around at half pace.

Yet Moyes was still one of the highest paid managers in world football when in charge of us..
Because he did a good job. How much would it cost to get someone else to do the job he did? Closest we have come so far is Ancelotti, one of the best coaches in world football.

Bobby Brown Shoes had one good season using Moyes' squad with a couple of additions. But over the longer term he was disastrous.

Their squad is ridiculous. If we finished ahead of them this season it would be the biggest mismanagement of a group of players ever by Lampard. Tuchel is getting a tune now out of probably the best squad in the league.

And I can't help think we're going to fumble a big opportunity to sneak into a champions League space.

I'm not sure it will end up being seen that way. The longer the season goes on, the more important the squad depth will become. Hence Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea will be in the top six, along with Leicester and probably the rs and Spurs. Then after that you get to the smaller squads like West Ham, Everton, Villa, Wolves, Southampton. I've said throughout the season that 8th would be winning "our" league, but given Arsenal's woeful season (would have expected them to be up there for top 6 along with those I've mentioned) 7th would be top of our league now.
