I've questioned this myself in other threads. If the talent pool for the players in the premier league is essentially the entire world, and the money is the best so the best come, why shouldn't the refereeing also pull from the best that the world has to offer?That's an interesting point, except most of the other leagues I follow have even worse collective refs.
In the Czech league, it's not exactly routine, but what Mason did yesterday isn't uncommon.
However, I have seen pretty dire refereeing from the best that the world has to offer as well. I think that on the whole the British referees are among the best. The problem I feel is that a number of them are biased and they are also shielded from accountability. They are likely less corrupt than their peers around the world
They should be paid more and forced to give interviews after the game.
