I watched it a few times and I felt he planted his leg very strangely.

It wasn't a red, but I can see why it was given as 1.

To clarify, it wasn't a red, but I suppose it could be argued there was slight intention, but it would be very hard to prove.
If you stop trying to referee intent it is probably just an obvious red.

But for some reason football insists that we do that and so since it was most likely an accident we should have let him off.

As a dirty yank I find this a strange way to handle things, I go back to the Dier handball everyone went crazy about because it was an "accident" where I think he knew he messed up and made himself bigger, and because no one but Dier can really know for sure I don't get why we even attempt to view incidents this way. To me everything would be simpler if it was "did he or didn't he?"

Did he land with his studs halfway up Chilwell's calf?

One change that would stop that card being given is no stills or slowed - down footage in stockley park / VAR tv

if inconclusive in real-time, give the onfield decision

The 1 that stands out in that case is the McCarthy leg snap with Rondon, he defo didn't intend to snap his leg, but his leg was snapped.

In your method, he's off.

Nah. That's an accident in the same way you wouldn't send off someone for an accidental clash of heads that cracks someone's skull.

It's all very difficult because of the simple fact that no one wants to do anything about diving and play acting so it is really hard to tell how dangerous things really are.

That stupid Balbuena red card has been overturned. Predictably, Kavanagh hasn't been demoted for yet another truly useless bit of refereeing.

No accountability. It's why they don't improve and indeed get worse every year.

That surely must mean VAR is toast.

3 VAR refs, plus a match ref, say Red. Some more refs, (I assume), overturn it?

What credibility has it left now?
Technology is only as good as the people using it, and since we’re talking about PMGOL that means it’s not very good
