Not as simple as that. What if you take two players out of "the mixer" onto the posts and then they're undermanned in the middle and lose a free header which goes in?

They weigh it up using probability and looking at past goals conceded.
We may have gone over this ground before, Nymzee.

'...then they're undermanned in the middle...' The point is, they HAD the players in the middle of the box, so were not undermanned there, BUT, Wolves STILL lost the aerial duel and that resulted in a goal due to empty posts. It is there to see every week on MOTD. There is no viable argument against putting defenders on posts when defending corners.

Well considering lots of highly paid, professional managers take them off the posts I’m pretty sure there are viable arguments.

But no, some random old man on a footie forum is of course the footballing oracle.

No, some of them are too 'smart' for their own good. They are not infallible. A case in point with the WBA goal today. Defenders on posts, the score is still 0-0.

It's really no more complicated than that, however you wish to dress it up. It's called basic defending.

From some random old man on a footie forum who has been watching the game for over 60 years. You do pick up certain things, and also notice certain mistakes being made over and over and over again. I'd take my point over your more dangerous strategy every time.

But I never said I preferred no men on posts? I just posited that there are statistical reasons some managers don't have them on there otherwise why would they do it...

You watch football, I watch football, neither of us have managed a side.

Most teams have 9, if not 10 out fielders in the box anyway and the attackers have 1 man taking the corner and always leave 1 back at half way
So why not have 1 or even 2 on the posts, after that It's just a matter of the defenders sorting out who marks who and sticking to it.
Its probably seen as old fashioned now.
