Weird system in Belgium, USG finish top of the league with 74 points (could be 75-77 if the 0-0 stands or they’re awarded the win) but aren’t champions yet because they have to play 6 more games against the 3 teams below them and starting with half the points they accrued (37 minimum) meaning if they lose a couple they could miss out on the league

I’m in Brussels the Derby weekend and actually scheduled to see RUSG open the championship round, on the Friday night.

Feel like they’ve been shafted there. If Beerschot can’t finish the game it should be an automatic 3 points. Yet league have confirmed it as a 0-0, so they’re now just 2 points clear of Brugge.

armoured hand egg would be decent if they found a magical way to make plays happen instantly one after another like they do when the clock is running out towards the end of the game. The actual action is alright, problem is 95% of the match is spent sitting around waiting for the play to occur.

That said the John Madden video games made me appreciate how insanely complex the sport is tactically and why it takes so long between plays.

Most boring sport on the planet bar none.
Weird take. Baseball exists. That needs a Vin Scully, Jack Buck or Harry Caray to be good, and even then you tuned in to listen to the announcer tell stories.

I suspect that you watching American football is much like me watching cricket. The rules are equally incomprehensible, so until you get past that you're just watching to try and back out the rules. The entertainment value is derived from every time you think you finally understand the rules, only to discover that you still don't.

Got zero to do with the rules. How can a sport, that takes several hours to view, be entertaining when most of the time you’re sat waiting for the next play? It’s like if 90% of a football game was waiting for someone to take a throw in. It is horrendous to watch.

I can’t call it a sport mate, no jeopardy, very similar to basketball - both bore the snot out of me (apologies to our Merican toffees and toffettes!)
If your bar for sports is there has to be relegation I think that really leaves football as the only one (I guess golf you can lose your spot, but is anyone watching golf to see who finishes 74th and stays on tour?). A sad and narrow view of the world imo. And that's not even a defense of American sports. There are plenty of entertaining ones out there but almost none persist with relegation anymore.

Please name a team sport that isn't American or franchised that doesn't have relegations anymore?

All the Australian sports, test rugby, test cricket, IPL and all the other cricket t20 leagues, most of the top level non-test rugby union leagues (maybe all now, England was the hold out), pretty sure Japanese baseball doesn't, I don't think the KHL does. Is that good or do we need to keep going?

Are you seriously including international sports in this discussion which don't even have leagues?

Are you really including IPL which is a essentially mini-tournament and franchised per city & ran by billionaires?

Are you really including rugby union which has always had relegation/promotion except for now which is a temporary pause due to COVID?

Are you really including aussie rules footie which can't have promotions/relegations because they only have enough teams for one league?

Honestly man, try harder...
