This is where we've got to no with the sport. Deemed great defending when I'd call it the exact opposite.

On a purely physical level, that is fantastic defending.

I 100% agree that he should never be in a position where Haaland has left him for dead, and has to bet on his physical attributes (and win) to successfully gamble for resurrection.

The general implication would seem to be that everyone is screwed if you give someone like Guardiola a weapon like Haaland. It's literally going to take an attacking brain like that of Xavi to beat this nonsense. A defensive genius like Simeone can't shut this down consistently enough, because there aren't enough true masters of the dark arts to go around. Those masters tend to stay in Italy, rather than play for Madrid's second-fiddle club that historically produces the goalkeepers those masters should in principle want to cover.

Against Haaland you defend deep.

That seems like not a winning plan for most of the clubs Pep needs to beat.

Haaland is never the GOAT, but his ability to change the game attached to the way Pep thinks seems utterly devastating.

If teams play City, and insist on defending on the half-way line like Bayern, should not be surprised when they get smacked. It's not rocket science tactics.

You have to score against them to beat them.

Haaland singly neutering four guys seems like a winning play unless you literally deploy Neuer in response...and Bayern did without result here.

I think you're confusing which team I'm discussing on the pitch here.

If you're suggesting that we roll over and play dead in response, I agree.

Taking points off City shouid not be the goal. We just need forty. We aren't in the sixty-plus Europa game right now.

I am now 100% confused. My initial point was that contenders for the crown of Europe are in a great deal of trouble. I suspect that you agree, on balance.

What do you perceive as the disagreement?

All I said, is that they're in trouble if they play a high line. You don't have to to win games. Atletico Madrid says hello.

I think they just got a bit over excited and got the wording wrong, initially poor positioning and defending but a great recovery.
