Sad news about Frank McGarvey. I'm not certain they all played together, or for very long, but his name conjures memories of Roy Aitken, Paul McStay, Danny McGrain, and Charlie Nicholas. Oh, and Archie MacPherson.

Sometimes. I don't think it's too outlandish a claim to suggest a. we're in a desperate relegation scrap and b. Pickford would be sold if we drop, and we wouldn't be in a position to demand top dollar.

The key difference is between if and when though. We are not relegated yet, and currently look unlikely to do so. It's by no means a certainty.

For all the Lampard supporters, I think Villa is a good example to look at. Lamps v Slippy have similar experience and Villa v Everton are similar-sized clubs with a big fanbase and high expectations. Both clubs were flirting with relegation this season and last. Villa sacked Slippy and we now look much more solid. I am not suggesting we are getting into Europe or anything daft but we certainly don't look like going back to the Championship next May. I like Lamps, he is a decent bloke by all accounts but I don't believe he is right for Everton.

Villa’s attacking options are much, much better than Everton’s.

That’s our problem, not solidity.

These type of things get overlooked with new managers. To me its why you cant compare Gerrard and Lampard too

Gerrard had Watkins, Ings, Buendia, Coutinho, Bailey, Ramsey as attacking options. Now Emery does too.

Lampard had Richarlison, an 1/8th of DCL, Gray, Townsend, Iwobi, Maupay, McNeil and Gordon.

Its so much easier to look like you have made a big difference with better quality players.

I agree but haven't Maupay, McNeil, and Dele all joined Everton since Lamps joined? Maupay needs to play in a completely different system to get the best from him. McNeil is one of the slowest players in the league and Dele... But those 3 players cost close to 50m, I suspect a different manager could have sent 50m more effectively than what has happened.

But didn't Lamps bring in McNeil and Maupay and Dele too.

Who brought in who is matter of contention.

In theory, Lampard isn’t responsible for transfers - but we just don’t know that for sure.

In a nutshell, we’ve made good signings in defence and midfield, but we haven’t replaced Richarlison or brought in like for like cover for Calvert-Lewin.

Whatever the circumstances surrounding that, we don’t have good enough forward options and that’s a limiting factor above all others.
